Bad Plastering Job?

Hello, I hope I’m allowed to ask for some advice here. Last year we had plastering work done in a room in the house. I’ve never been entirely happy with the job but don’t know anything about plastering but it just looks uneven/messy? Also, anytime we try to put a screw into the walls or plug the wall chunks of the plaster just crumbles and breaks away. Would be really grateful to get some peoples opinions on this. Thank you all very much in advance!

So, you've got crumbling old lime plaster, but you didn't want to pay to have it hacked-off, so you went for a cheap re-skim over the top, and now you're not happy the reskim didn't magically solve the crumbling?

That's like putting a band-aid on top of a broken leg and wondering why your leg's still floppy.

Now let's not be too harsh with the customer what if said plasterer talked them into this it's easy for people not in the trade to be blinded by bullshit!!

Well, yes, but if the customer KNOWS the walls weren't taken back to brick, then it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the underlying old substrate is what's really coming off the walls in chunks, rather than the top 3mm of new 'pink stuff' being to blame....

Not being harsh, but it's a bit difficult to believe that even a very naive customer wouldn't be able to grasp something that simple and obvious.

You are not using big enough or deep enough plugs and screws so it is not anchoring into brickwork, it's just pulling the plaster off.
- plus the above comments about re-skims etc. Plasterer obviously forgot to do the final skim coat patch under the stairs.
