Been reading artex is dangerous!! i didn't know this i've scraped some off before aswell!!
Can i not just skim over artex without scraping it?
Or does it have to have bonding coat on first?
What about wickes one coat is this any good for thick walls?
Got a stipple ceiling to do next week bit worried now :-0

It;s all b*ll***s mate just a big gravey train for some scaring the public just skim it.

just scrape it off mate and skim it. Wear a mask if ya concerned and i dont mean that scream mask you have in the draw at home either:RpS_wink:

Asbestos is a killer - but it takes years to do it........ goes into your lungs and stays there - read up on it if you want to know more..... Not nice really...

It is more dangerours in its raw state - like a lot of cotton wool - it was used as an insulant and fire retardant.

It is more dangerous if you cut it or drill into it and create a lot of dust....... There are a lot of specialist Asbestos Companies about who will assess and then safely remove asbestos (and products with Asbestos in them), search for an organisation called ARCA...... this is the Asbestos Association

Now adays, most of the worst stuff is known about and has been removed or is being manage; but Whitebeam is right, asbestos was added to Artex pre early 80's. But there is not that much in it......

If you think there is some in it, best to get the client to get it looked at....... or get some specialist wet artex remover and soften it first and keep it wet as you take it down.....

OK - previous job, I used to sell specialist products into the Asbestos Removal / Abatement industry.........

If you don't like it and don't know - get the client to find out and sort it before you plaster or skim it!

That said - It is your living and life.......

runswith is right but there aint much in the artex to be fair IF there is any at all, get a dustmask on and scrape it then just skim it, if you tell the house hold that there might be asbestos in the artex and that they need to get it looked at they will just ring someone else to skim it over

Thanks for the advice.
I can't board it over due to coveing on the ceiling & wall edge.

NPS think i will just scrape it all over with a mask on then hoover dust up, should be safest way :RpS_thumbup:
Thanks again.

Check out the big brain on Rich.................:RpS_thumbup:

Cheers (I think) LOL

I have had a few jobs in various parts of the construction industry..... a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing LOL

See the effects of Asbestos when I worked supplying into that trade - NOT NICE!!!

But you are right - there really is very little in artex... just take care and clean up around yourselves..... it is usually the post war, up to mid 70's Artex to be honest......

More a problem in old walls, ceilings and insulated pipes and services of older, mainly commercial or industrial buildings..... be careful when drilling, cutting or taking down walls and ceilings in older buildings - you only get one life!

Just make sure you use your own hoover to clean the dust up as if you use the customers hoover and its found to have asbestos in they could sue you.

Dave before you scrape the ceiling don't forget to cover the old ladies light shades as they get a bit touchy if you get any dust or pva on them.

Good bags them mate, carried 8 bottles of newky brown from the shop to my van & didn't split :RpS_thumbup:
Then it can be used to cover floral light shades :RpS_thumbup:

From derby notts area, not very good at doing profile. But I'm not sure relevant putting some of the details in. Maybe I'll change as I start using the forum more.

Nisus - watch you don't get done for advertising on this site!! I here Bargan Booze do a nice line of own brand plaster as well!

You'll have to show the manager your excellent advertising on a forum with 8000 + thirsty spreads next time you go in and ask for a discount! LOL

haha almost as good as when i managed to trowel the print of a page 3 girl onto a pensioners ceilin:RpS_blink:

Most supermarkets do 4 bottles of certain ales for £6
Bargain booze do 8 bottles for £12 so no difference mate :RpS_wink:

ye but a ASDA bag looks better than bargain booze:RpS_lol:

I disagree, for covering floral light shades it's the bargain booze bag all the way for me :RpS_thumbup:

I know that Casper uses M&S bags for covering lights up at work :rolleyes)
