Hello mates. My name is Al and Im from Bristol. I am a plasterer and decorator and do alright but prices are not great here at the moment. I have a artex ceiling to skim that is quite powderery when you touch it. What is artex sealer? Will this seal the powdery artex so that I can the skim over it? Is it different to PVA? Thanks.

if its quite powdery it should be easy enough to scrape back. if youre that way inclined. youd be better using a stabilser like stabilex or the like. artex sealer just seals board and other backgrounds prior to artexing or plastering or whatever. a bit like a few coats of pva

Thanks mates. Leebo I just don't know what Artex sealer is. It is embarrassing maybe but that is true. I was wondering if it would seal unpainted artex that is already on. Normally I would go down the stabiliser avenue as has been mentioned and wondered if it would be the same. I might board it but it would depend on what the customer wants to pay. There budget I mean not them telling me my business.

Artex sealer is for artex, paint it on day before and let it set, texture it day after with no suction works a treat for artex don't know about it working for plaster, pva as done me good for 30+ years
