Hi guys, i've been browsing a while so i thought i should say hello. :-)
Fed up with my work now and disagreeing with the boss daily i thought i'd try something new.. Although i have been in property maintenance in the past i was reserved the role off mixer, carrier and cleaner. I enrolled on a 4 day short course at coventry building works just to see if i could do it and see if i'd enjoy it... By the last day my plastered walls and ceiling were certainly acceptable to me so my goal now is to try and get some weekend work with a plasterer and do some family and friends jobs, just till i build up my confidence.
I've already gained lots of useful information from this great site so fingers crossed in a year or so i'll be able to start my own business! :-) Thanks in advance! :-)

Welcome mate, you'll likely get trashed for the 4day course.......but as you say, the right thing is to offer yourself to an experienced chap, be cheap and willing and build up knowledge and confidence before going alone. All the best mate, god loves a trier.

Yeah i agree @Dropsalot :-) i think these courses have there uses.... I was really happy with my course and the instructor gave me his card so if i ever had any problems in the future i cold give him a bell. I think mainly they are just to see if the type of work there teaching is for you..

Welcome Stephen. the one thing you can't teach is attitude and yours seems spot on from the posts I've read and wish you the best of luck

Hi Stephen. Welcome mate. I used to live in Cheltenham, started working as a labourer for a local Irish plastering family (I bet they are still there), that was about 25 years ago, got paid £32 per day - looking back now, what I learnt from them was amazing, really was every aspect of job they did. I actually think starting as a labourer is a great incentive to learn quickly...

That's not bad money 25 years ago!
