Another DIY'er here looking for free advice I'm afraid. Go gentle. . .

Stripped bedroom back ready to dab and board and found an air brick that's patched up with expanding foam (see pic).

1. Can I just blue-grit over this ready for dab and board or should I fill it in better with a piece of board aswell?

2. The other wall has brick, cinder block, and timber underneath old plaster (see pic). Again can I just blue grit over and board on top?

What’s the fascination with blue grit?

You don’t need it, so fook it off.

Wet it down and stick your boards on.

Also, the block walls are about 40mm thick and not usually tied in to the main walls. Make sure they’re not flexing at the ends. A few angle brackets screwed an plugged can help make them more solid.

What sort of bricks and blocks are only 40mm thick mate?
"Not usually tied in to the main walls" really? Build quality is obviously very poor in the frozen north.

I found one in the garden this morning. They’re actually about 50mm. I just remember them being around the size of a 2” timber.

Got them upstairs in my house, built off a 3x2 sole plate. Hardly any effort made to tooth them into the main walls so they flex a lot.

3x2 on edge? I wonder how widespread those blocks are? I've never seen one heard of a block under 75mn.
