Advice please, learning the trade need some experience

I'm at the Leeds college of building on my first year of a two year full time plastering course. I havent been able to get an apprenticeship, so I am trying to gain some site experience. I have every Monday off from college and would be more than happy to help out whilst learning the trade. Could anybody help?
