Hello

ive just done a little rendering job on my own home,
i used plastering sand but found it had lots of stones in it just wondering what other sand people use?

Some plastering sand I have bought in the Halifax / Dewsbury area (years ago) had stones in it. But that was back in the days when you mixed plastering sand with soft sand.

Some rendering locally done at the turn of the 19/20 century what has been well weathered has stones in it.

I've had crap like that before, can't rub it up especially if it's quite thin.
Best sand I've used was crushed stone, like spreading butter :)

Get that from Travis time to time a few pebbles. Maybe 3-4 in a little bag.

Had a terrible time with sand from travis before, full of pebbles, could stick your hand in a bag and pull one out no problem. All I got was a sorry and it's never happened before.

what lime mix do you use Olican? 6:1:1 , i'm interested in using silver sand but does it not crack like if you were to use soft sand? how thick do you lay it on?

I mix 5:1:1 for top coat, never get any cracks. been using it this way for years and never had a problem. If its mixed well its really nice and light to spread. When I top I lay on in 2 passes, first coat is tight then lay it in and rule.
