hi all,
i know i havent posted much, but been reading most nights.

just have a question.. the site lads might be able to help me here.. (spunky)

what's are the advantages and disadvantages of working on sites? as apposed to domestic.?

cheers in advance.

Matt

Site work better runs of work, alot easier to clean up after yourself....... domestic you do less to cover you're money and you're not surrounded by h+s knobs ......money wise I doubt there's much in it why do you ask mate

so im better off been on domestic, worked on domestic for 2 year now, just with you saying you do less on domestic to earn your coin, is that what you mean compared to site?

just me mates a ceiling fitter, and his boss looking for a subby plasterer... so just tryn to way up the pros n cons

cheers for ur advice spunky

gibbo- what you mean by less hassle for site work ?
just trying to get a grip for it.. im in 2 minds at the min to what to do ...
i mean the bloke is only offering £1.80per square metre. which to me seems abit low ( from reading other posts on the forum )

no sheeting up no dealing with soap dodgers no wanky backing to skim on no waiting for pva to go off no stripping crap off walls no architaves to work round no having to work to shitty skirtings the list is endless but on the other hand 1.80 is bad

site work, turn up crack on less cleaning up etc
domestic fafing around sheeting up removing rads etc
1.80 is low but if your a plasterer youll know what you can make on domestic per day compared to the amount of meterage youll have to cover on site to earn the same.

that is low but i find on sites as spunkster say better runs of work plus u get faster at tte job because the work is the same if u start a house say it takes u five days as the job goses on u will do that house in 3 days u devolope a system for that house and u dont have to move all the time just to the house next store

thanks for the replies lads..
i thought it was a low rate..
why is it, the prices for every trade are going down and down?
when is it going to stop? its frigging scary.
we (britian) ever going to get out of this sh1t?

Domestic all day long ,alot of these guys on here are the very good at what they do ,years of experience and can earn money just on the speed ,...but alot of plasterers earn more money jobbing .If your young go for the sites ,burn out and die .

Try it mocco you never know, it's a shock to the system to most domestic lads they've never really known what proper works like

old boss i had on site years ago use to say to us in morning what ever u want to take off tee shrit or whatever take it off now because u wont have time later on boy was he right any less than there room aday was a sakeing offence but thats the way sites are u have to get the work done

Only kidding........60m is average skimming 30m float and set, I've never been asked to do a certain amount if you're a bit slower you might get given smaller areas or you'll be surrounded by other spreads

The disadvantage of site is its F*****g borin, no satisfaction, like it or lump it attitude, things sometimes arent ready, s**t boarders, H&S, s**t agents, never getting the right measure, fuckall for loading up, fuckall for beading up, no power, no powder, no tape, no beads, no stilts allowed, no smoking (if you smoke), waitin a month for your money (when you first start), CSCS card, deductions ie retention, CITB, holidays, frozen water, nothing ready but appart from that OH and the rates are s**t its ok. Domestic is usually the opposite of what ive just said but if anything goes wrong its on your toes. Where abouts are you from? i could guess coz your names Matt but i wont.

Domestic if you do a good job you will get paid, on site these days you never know and £1.80 is shite unless its massive areas but if your happy with a oner a day the worlds your oyster.

Yep its always a price for the house and guaranteed if there was 10 houses in a row with ten gangs in each they would all be getting different prices, they will not tell you what there getting coz they think there getting more lol
You will never get the measure and you will be lucky if you ever get the price for the house before you start it.

It's been ages since I done site-work and with all that sh!t in mind I honestly believe I would be walking away crying or end up decking someone out of frustration, but I suppose if you have the patience, once your into the swing of things it works alright for you lads doing it all the time. Domestics all the way for me though :RpS_thumbup:

all true what can u do its f ucked

Just measure the house?

Yep waste more of your time and more of your energy arguing the toss to be told well thats the measure. Come on spunky your getting what they want to pay you on site or as you will know if you ever have done is "well thats what it is take it or leave it"

You measure the house and if it comes out at 1.60 a metre you tell them there taking the piss ? You always measure at least one unit if you're on a unit price and there all the same or you're a stupid cant lol
