Hello all, I would like to ask a few questions and see how the majority of you work. I only know one other plasterer and after visiting some of these forums have seen that other plasterers have different ways of doing things. Some good and maybe some bad but we all work differently. I am just interested to see how other people choose to work. I know some answers may depend on the job itself but i am just asking in general.

Are you                              a plasterer or a spread ?
Do you use                         1 trowel or 2 ?
Do you use                         Bond it or PVA ?
Do you use                         standard drill or mixer drill
Do you wet the walls with     a brush or a spray bottle?
Do you finish internals by     Brushing or troweling?
Do you use                         internal corner trowel or freehand
Do you use                         dust sheets or self adhesive carpet protector?
Do you finish after                4 trowels or 5 trowels

thats all i could think of. im sure there are more but thanks anyway.

I was always taught to use PVA cheap does the job and if you get bondit or bonding agent on someones wall when your only plastering a ceiling it ain't that easy to get off. Plus the expense ofit.

Use a mixer quicker simple as that. I was taught using angle bead and cog many moons ago but when you're a one man it ain't nice to be knackered before you have started to spread especially when you're rolling a gauge to do a big hit.

I use 1 wet trowel on the brush then spary lighlty the trowel down gets rid of any unwanted water stains and then only give it a light polish to finish it off.

As for dust sheets I rarely drop jack onthe floor so therefore the only dust sheet I have down is when I Seal up and usually leave them down cause I can't be bothered to lift back up again. My tools are usaully set out by then.

PS If using these differnet bonding agents you have to wait for them to take effect usually 24 or 12 hours depending on which product used.

1: Plasterer
2: 2 trowels 1 for floating, laying on and one for troweling up
3: PVA Just over £5 for 5litres from Buildfix!!
4: A "why are you still using one of those for" hand wheel :o
5: Spray bottle: Cleaner, more direct; less buckets to kick, shuffle, fall over, stand in!!!
6: Clean out, spray, trowel.
7: Freehand done right beats a corner trowel hands down.
8: Far too many varibles to be specific: suction, temperature, humidity, thickness of plaster, my general well-being ;D. So ideally 3 sometimes 6 (looks fab but paint wont stick well though).

i suppose if i really got a wiggle on a could probably trowel a wall up 15 times in one hit but all the plaster would be in a big stripey bulge along the middle of the wall ;D
