Casien filler, not caesim. Earthborn Casein Filler Bit late with this reply but if it helps then great.

    Removing cement pointing

I got on fine with it but the stone was local lias which is quite hard. It did bounce about a bit so I can see where you are coming from. Raking out near expensive soft bricks it certainly is not suitable for. I got all I needed to do done in a day and a half so I'm happy. I think a small...

    Removing cement pointing

Righty ho. Thanks for the suggestions but I did say I was raking out stonework, not brick so I think a grinder in whatever form will not be accurate enough without damaging the stone. I had a chat with my lime supplier and he recommended this! Arbortech AS170 Allsaw Brick and Mortar Saw 240V...

    Removing cement pointing

Hello peeps, I am doing a lime plastering job at the moment but there are damp problems caused by cement pointing on the outside of the stone walls. I was going to remove it by hand but is there an easier and quicker power tool that can be recommended? I haven't used air tools before but would...

    Plasterers mixing baths

Cheers guys. It's obvious that there can be no improvements and I will not make millions out of this. :RpS_crying: The plastic tank I got I'm happy with. It's only going to be used to knock up hardwall or lime plaster. With the lack of people buying baths now I'm surprised they are still made!

    Plasterers mixing baths

That's what I thought Dave. I popped into a company that my mate recommended, they make agricultural tanks. I got one that was a second and it is wider than a cut down barrel and quite high, so no splashing.

    Plasterers mixing baths

Hi Guys (and gals) Do you still use a mixing bath? If you do then tell me what you like and don't like about it. I'm toying with the idea of manufacturing something designed for plasterers, by plasterers (you). I need as much detail as possible about what sort of features would be good in a...

    Stockists of render fibres?

Is there any difference between the render ones and the concrete ones that Wickes sell??

    Stockists of render fibres?

Thanks Beddy. It's obviously no problem them being advertised as 'concrete fibres' rather than render ones then? I will try this if I cannot get anything specifically produced for render.

    Stockists of render fibres?

Hi guys. I would like to use some fibres in an external garden wall render. Trouble is it seems I can only find them available online. Does anyone know of any national builders merchants that stock them? Cheers Mark

    Tennis Elbow

Whatever you do, don't try to make the rubbish in a one ton dumpy bag 'settle' properly by pulling it up at the corners. I've now slightly torn both muscles in my forearms and have tennis elbow. Really pi$$ed off as I have a load of lime plastering to do. Having to spread toward me on all...

    Lime with time

It was a concrete floor over flagstones. We have now exposed them and pointed them with lime mortar. I'm with the suggestion that it just needs more time. The walls were probably ringing wet when we started.

    Lime with time

Hi guys (and girls) Recently did a renovation of a hamstone cottage in South Somerset. Looks a cracking job (no pun intended) and the client is very pleased with the finish. However the plaster has cured from the top of the wall down to about the last couple of feet. All the walls were covered...

Lady plasterer... Soon to be :-)

Hi Sooze. Well done for choosing to be part of the best trade in the building industry. :-) As far as tools are concerned I would go with Marshall Town every time. Why pay £20-00 less for something inferior when this is going to be your living? Would Michealangelo have brought a paint brush...

    Van van vans!!! :(

I borrowed my bro in laws Vivaro (SWB) while he was in Costa Rica. It was a nice motor with plenty of oomph in the engine and handled well. I got a pi**ed off that 8X4 sheets would not fit in apart from diagonally and then they flapped from side to side going round corners! Anyway, he came home...

New on the forum (One Sure Insurance)

Took out my van insurance with one-sure a couple of weeks ago. A little higher than the cheapest quote but so many more benefits like courtesy van, breakdown cover, loss of earnings, etc. I think it was brilliant. :RpS_thumbup:

    Job leads

Well I've just been round to see the job. Tiny, tiny little job but a job no less. Job leads

Phew. Been busy, busy, busy at the moment. Not much time to be on here. Had a phone call from someone needing some plastering done. Not a massive job, just plastering up after a UPVC door was fitted but a job none the less. I asked where he had heard of us, the reply was..............The...

how much would you charge a day(8hours)to do a plastering job for a mate?

Before I started spreading for a living again this January I charged nothing to my immediate family. What I got in return was free food, booze and a lot of offers of help with different things. As soon as I started spreading in January they said they didn't want me working for them unless they...

Levelling out a floor for parquet flooring

Guys, I need some help on this. My friend has managed to get a load of quality second hand parquet flooring but needs to level out the existing concrete floor. Trouble is the middle of the floor probably needs around 30mm on it tapering out to nothing at some points. IMO this is too thick for...

    Curved or flat?

Yeh, well I'm a lazy b*****d. :RpS_wink: As I said before, I started up again in January after a LONG time of not doing this for a living. I have been using it now and then for family and friends just to keep my hand in so that's why it has lasted this long. It is very rounded on the corners and...

    Curved or flat?

Have been using my old Tyzack double hang steel trowel since I was about 18 (I'll let you work that out) and it is bloody great. However, I purchased a new Marshalltown pre-worn one and used it for the first time the other day and was really impressed. As it is much bigger it smoothed all the...

Is this the right lime plaster to use?

My instructor on a lime course told me that synthetic fibres were no good bacause just like human hair they are too smooth and the lime cannot 'grip' it. Obviously not though...........and no, I won't be using human hair! Lol.

Is this the right lime plaster to use?

I'll take that back. Lime Plaster and Render Reinforcement - Bob Bennett I was going on the advise of someone who was supposed to know what they are talking about.
  34. C

Is this the right lime plaster to use?

Synthetic fibers are no good in lime as they are too smooth. You need to use animal hair. The lime supplier recommended above will tell you this. You should only use synthetic fibres in cement based renders.

    Plasterboard props

Been thinking about buying a couple of these but just wondered if any of you could recommend a particular brand. Obviously trying to keep costs down but don't want to end up with a load of cr*p. Are the ones at Screwfix okay? They are £17.99 each. Cheers guys.

    how do your polish yours!!!

Yeh. My neighbour had his whole house done by a friend of his. I must admit it looked pukka with all the mirror walls but as has already been said, it makes it a b*stard to paint.

    Corners ??

Minh is correct. You will get much better corners if you plaster opposite walls each time. I bloody hate having to do two adjacent walls at the same time. Pain in the ***.
