Best place to learn is on the job. You learn the basics at college but if you really want to be good then get on with a decent plasterer. You'll know if hes a chancer or a cowboy because he'll under cut people and be rough as ****
Wouldn't have a job with my boss if i didn't want to become a plasterer. Did my two years at college and have started at the bottom labouring steadily working my way up trying to become a good all round plasterer, which includes rendering
My plastering skills have improved a lot since i started with my boss both on the trowel and prep work, keeps it interesting if i'm doing a bit of everything and the rewards are good to :-)

I am 20 in august, just need to finish some paper work at college then i've passed my level two diploma in plastering.
At college we have learnt the basics which includes: floating out with sand and lime and browning, skimming, dry lining, boarding ceilings, floor screeding...
