It's just a double skim coat over the old plaster, which was exposed when we removed the paper that was covering the ceiling.
We've contacted someone else about overboarding so we'll see what they're looking to charge. If we're going to get that done, should we leave the mist coating the rest...
Got the floor/edging sander coming out this week.
Thanks everyone for your comments. One of our original quoters said we needed overboarding, but the person we ended up going with said we didn't - so we trusted him. Sh*t happens.
I've just had a room skimmed and when dry, this crack appeared in the ceiling. This picture is just a portion of the crack, it actually almost spans the whole length of the room (but not completely, and that's at either end).

I had some cowboy plasterers come and skim my room and long story short, my floorboards are caked with plaster dust. We've thought about hiring a floor/edging sander to restore them.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not a plasterer and am learning all of the terms/methods/approaches as I go along, so please bear with me. I assume when you are all saying "re-plaster" you mean skim the walls? Or do you mean something else?

So we stripped the bedroom and landing walls of wallpaper and we are just weighing up what to do next. The pictures below represent a whole bunch of issues in the bedroom and on the landing.
We plan to use Bonding 60 on the chases, Toupret and/or foam on the lath/plaster holes and lining paper...
