In major need of a decent fibrous fitter for ongoing work in Cornwall. Any one know of anyone? Subcontract basis..got to know what they are doing as training someone up would defeat the point at the moment.

Been getting some displays ready for royal Cornwall show next week. Were gonna set up a bench and do a bit of live cornice casting too.. should be fun :-)

Make sure you got a warm workshop for the gel coat!

Not had much joy with shellac so have been using G4 instead. 3-5 thin coats on a damp model, 5 x wax, and a coat of blue for luck and it jumps out. No need to wait for model to dry either.

SWIP usually.

Lafarge casting and ca120.. Not keen on the pinky tinge of BG.

Probably need a coarse sand and or devil float to get a key up on the raw walls and make sure no paste or size remains. Really good dampen down and prob two or three coats of fine setting stuff to gain control of the suction. Painted walls will need a d.g, thistle bond or blue grit etc to get...

What surface do you have Paint/distemper or raw plaster?

Cheers mike, no not done this process before. Will run it in a trough next time though, made things a lot harder running it flat.

Thanks Frank its a bit of both, client wanted something fancy for large a drawing room that had lost its original. Enrichments are from another that we are due to replace so hopefully use it again.

Nearly finished model and trying to get my head round best/most economical way to make a mould. thinking silicon insert for the enrichment in grp mould rather than full rubber. Anyone got any advice/do's /donts on best way? is thixo applied best way or shuttered and poured? Any advice would be...

Just spent the day at a tutorial with master plasterer Jeff Orton. What a dude! Run mouldings on scotch brackets and lime setting coats, and a wealth of history, stories and tips. Can't help but be enthused by his passion and knowledge of the craft!

Cheers perlite, We have been using prompt with a range of different sands, much like as with lime. 2.5:1 coarse sands for coring out/ base coats through to 1:1 fine sand top coats. Casting has been at 1:1 aswell. You can use prompt neat too for bonding slurry costs, as an adhesive and a grout...
