They call it mudding out there, I've worked out there as a sparky and they seem to drywall and tape and joint everything. Getting a work visa is like rocking horse sh!t. If you do go out there don't take your tools with you as they will send you back on the next plane. Buy your tools when your...

    H&S for gennys

I think that there is an auto company that builds up a 2 gang panel with a 16 amp 110v and 240v sockets or plugs, that matches the panel and colour on the side of the van. Then on the inside there's just trailing leads with either trailing plugs or sockets on them. The next time you see a...

    H&S for gennys

Meaning just use an RCD adaptor on the 240 or 110 outlets and this will satisfy minimum electrical safety requirements. If your on a site that's over managed then its up to them to provide temporary power. RCDs can be a pain in the arse even on brand new equipment, so if you make up a short...

    H&S for gennys

As for earthing, the genny should have its own configuration due to the way its set up. Some sites go over the top with earthing and they are more concerned with potential earth loops. In which case an RCD would take care of any such phenominon causing a hazzard. A sparky that knows his stuff...

    H&S for gennys

You will need to have a door or window open so the fumes can escape or you'll choke to death. Or you could extend the exhaust with a gas fire type flue liner to the outside. Or if its convenient or practical you could keep it in the back of your van with the lead trailing from it but not causing...

Dodgy diy 2 day advance plastering course...?

Well I did the 2 day (advanced ha ha),plastering course at Stockport that followed on from the 4 day diy plastering course, and what a waste of time and money. I was of the understanding we would be skimming larger areas with two men, but all we did was work inside the same booths about the size...

    multi finish over lime putty

So would only lime putty with a drizzle of plaster of paris only be suitable for lime backgrounds in general to maintain flexibillity? And gypsum would seal it and maybe cause cracking on lme and lath backrounds.

    multi finish over lime putty

So I take it that multi finish/gypsum isn't reccomended on lime and lath or any other lime background? Would lime putty with a drizzle of plaster of Paris be more suitable?

    multi finish over lime putty

I am planning to reskim my old ceilings in my house and they're lime and lath. Would it be better to skim with multi finish or a smooth lime putty? I am also going to knock off some browning at low level on some walls to redo a damp proof course that has failed. I only noticed the damp patches...

I'm not trying to tell anyone how to run their business or affairs, but the following might be useful to some of you. When I was sparkying, I were sometimes stung one way or another from commercial and domestic customers. So I got to the stage on a rewire or on biger jobs I was asking for 30%...

what is the trowel called that I want?

Thanks for the replies lads, what about the narrow trowels for tight spaces, is it wise just to have one an inch wide and one about 3" wide? And what about external coner trowels, are they neccessary, correct me if I'm wrong but surely you can rub up the corners from the corner beads inwards?

what is the trowel called that I want?

Hello plasterers Just joined the forum and I need some advice please. I recently did a 4 day DIY plastering course and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I am doing another two days in November to do a bit rendering and larger areas with another plasterer. The course was more hands on with mainly trowel...
