The specs for a lot of hospitals etc I've worked on was usually 70mm stud, then 15mm ply then 15mm boards, so yea ply is used a lot but it's more for strengh than sound

    Silverback board dot and dab?

Lol well obviously I'm a lot more clued up than you coming out with that crap. It is a seriously bad idea to dab metal studs! Show me in the white book where it mentions doing that. Please explain to me why dabbing mf studs to a wall is better than putting a mf wall up using c channel top and...

    Silverback board dot and dab?

lol why the hell would you dab mf studs onto a wall? you might as-well just get channel and build false wall.

    One coating on board

needs another trowel?? lol it looks like youve just laid it on without any troweing
  17. S

    Curved or flat?

nope yr wrong, its easy to get the wall virtually perfectly flat on second coat with a perma, i put on with a 5yr old perma and trowel up with an 11yr old.

Dot and dab over very uneven stone walls

Have you done it yet? I want to see a pic of how bad this wall is, and 1 finished if you done it.
  19. S

    Curved or flat?

Lol if you can't get a flat finish with a perma your doing it wrong! Mines like a snooker table, it's how you put it on and flatten what counts
  20. S

Dot and dab over very uneven stone walls

Like I said earlier cut lengths of board ( pref off cuts) about 6 inch wide, dab em on every 600 and abit more on bottom for skirt, use a chalk line or laser on floor and ceiling and Pack to line obv tight back as you can go. Then use nice big dabs for yr boards.
  21. S

Dot and dab over very uneven stone walls

Dab strips of board on to pack out and if you can knock high points off do that aswell.
  22. S

    How would you tackle this?

yea sound mike, everyones got their own ways. id find it easier to dab myself but can see yr point from a novices point of view with the clenliness etc (not you the op)

Dunno if anyone else does this but i dont need that uni finish crap i just pour a pint of pva per bag into the tub while mixing, this avoids the need to pva walls first or use that over priced uni finish crap.

    Some idiots in the game

Haha, i only do it if I don't like the decorator, funny as **** seeing their puzzled face next day, you can tell their thinking " I'm sure I papered that wall yesterday!"
  41. S

    Removing radiators

Lol crazy spreads taking rads off to skim. I'm also a qualified plumber and I don't even touch them when plastering. Why would ya when it's easy to blend in behind and the customers usually left a load of paper on behind anyways. In an ideal world yea but where do you stop?
  42. S

    Much demand

Agree YouTube is where I learnt, I had a head start tho as I'm good at ironing so I transferred my technique straight over to plastering.

Yea course it's worth it. If you have a page with a lot of likes say 1000+ people are going to think yea he must be good it's basically free networking. All big names do it now with the offers, like and share the page to win blah blah and that way they are advertising to millions

Because Facebook is fast becoming the no1 advertising platform on the net, And likening and sharing spreads the word on yr page. Is that comment above aimed at me lol? I admit I don't comment on here much, but I read it quite often and there's only so much to talk about with plastering and...
