Help with retaining wall and raised bed render

forget the dpc,its a weak point.Best to cast a concrete base with L shaped bars in the bottom set in a straight line and use hollow congrete blocks to build, fillig up with concrete as you build.I would personally mesh the whole wall, stainless fixings and beads, then render, you could also put in...

    How was this render done?

wow, thats brought back memories.I remember putting this on loads of new builds back in the day and laughing all the way to the bank. Its funnys how fads come and go,but even back then I knew it would attract dirt because of the stones leaving grooves, and within a year they started looking...

    Help on this issue

    Help on this issue

Whenever ive used membranes like this there is a black butyl tape that comes with the membrane that you use to seal the joints,it also acts as a vapour barrier. The old brickwork will leach out salts ect,did you scratch it before you put the membrane on?There are nipples on the rear of the...

    What would you do ?

I'd have re-booked it when it was clear, then let them down and ask them how it felt to be let down? Done it before. Those kind of people know exactly what they are doing.

I agree, but to anyone who want to expand, bare in mind that doubling your workforce will not double your money. If you had say 15 sreads on,its reasonable to expect that 5 will make a good profit,5 will break even, and 5 may lose you money,it can vary all ways, then by the time you get more...

It is very hard to step down a gear or two, especially from your own work, but it is rewarding if you can spend more time with family,or doing the things that you want to do in life with the people that you want to do them with. You could try it for a month or two,see how it goes? Its a bit like...

Have a go on a small ceiling.I used to put artex on years ago with a roller, the roller didnt turn as such, but was used to apply it and spread it out.Get a spat or speedskim straight on it.

    Skimming over artex

If you want to be 100 percent, board it over then skim.Nothing worse than it all coming down .Its happened to me,and its easier to learn from someone elses mistakes.Thats what I tell my kids/grandkids anyway

    Worst disasters

Had two re-skims over artex come down, one was huge, all down in one crash.Got a splash of skim in me eye, first hawk full, finished the ceiling in pain, went down the eye hospital,10 to 5,bloke says "we're not a 24 hour wal;k in centre mate" so i grabbed him by the throat and squeezed,he went down...

    Booking deposits?

I always take a smallish fee up front,I've had it before when they ring up and try to cancel a couple of days before, when you;ve already got materials and labour lined up,i then give them that same money on the day we start,or knock it off the job at the end.I sometimes feel if they dont want to...

Its the kids I feel sorry for, they think its normal to live like it and the chain never gets broken.I'm at the stage in my career that if the place is a s**t hole,I dont even send the quote as I dont want to get the job, turn up and get angry at people letting their children live in filth.Years...

    The weather

I usually get my scaffolder to sheet the top and sides sept onwards,up till then I always carry a few large tarps, bungees in case it comes down hard, but to be honest its usually only the top deck roof that needs sheeting.as it rarely comes in sideways, worth paying a little extra cos I think if...

    Advice please

I would tread carefully.I;d imagine its a 60-90 day payment period, plus there may be retention money involved, which may mean you have to return 1 year on and repair/make good defects so in reality I would kiss that part goodbye. As mentioned by others,I would go in high.I trust you have a good...
