An "old house" is a good enough excuse for render to crack in 6 months?

In my case I had lime used. I hear this should make it more flexible and last a bit longer... To be fair the gutter was misaligned... so during this winter I had water streaming down this section where the cracks formed. So my lime aint dodgy then? I wouldnt have thought 3 months of rain would...

Is it normal practice to add sealant at the joint of a terraced house when re-rendering ?

I mean where your newly fully redone render will be taken up to the neighbouring property's. If the renders are vastly different, ie. lime and concrete would this become more important, cheers.

Why does every tradesman I met slag off their peers work when they see it?

Over the years mate every single time lol. Is it the first rule in every manual or something?

Only need to wear a mask for mixing and sanding?

Aye, want to play it safe. Thanks. Read so many threads on here about many of you having the lungs of heavy smokers without the smoking, which seems deeply unfair btw!

Will a gap between render and fascia cause damp issues/blow the new render?

Perhaps I am catastrophizing? It doesn't look good though. This is fresh lime btw. Thanks for looking anyway.

Are the self maintenance aspects of silicone and monocouche render over-rated?

How long have they been used for rendering also, I dont want to use anything that hasnt been tested by time! Is good old sand and cement still superior, or are their supporters afraid of change??? Read more...

How much above the average price would you go for a decent renderer/plasterer?

If times are busy, 50%? Please help me not get ripped off lads, inherited a house after both parents passed last year; had some serious piss-takes so far haha. Is it harder to remove this material btw? Thanks.

DO we always have to replaster fully after efflorescence?

So in half the relevant walls in my house the plaster has blown, but in a couple there is barely just a tiny bit of discolouration. I got told by a damp surveyor that even in those I use should fully replaster and seperate the damp and new plaster with a membrane. Mr Johnny rippoff merchant is...

Any idea the cause of the damp?

Sorry for the repeat. The first two are from the ground floor and the last 4 are from the first floor directly above it. I had to fix the roof recently (3 floor house) but not sure if it's all from there.

Who's right about this plastering/rendering: my builder or "the one with the attitude problem" ?

Right, so I'm in a forum and some annoying forumite is saying my builder doesn't know what they are talking about. I know nothing about nothing though, so I feel compelled to check somewhere else suitable like here! I really hope that the one with the attitude problem is the wrong one! It's...
