Thanks for your reply. Yes I suspected it was lime as it's a victorian property, and I think it's got hair in it.
I posted this thread on a different sub-forum and someone replied saying asbestos but I'm guessing they were taking the mick. Was asbestos ever mixed with plaster in residential...
