    one coat plaster

    i'll put money on it was Thistle Universal One Coat! ive used it but hated it. it does take a while for it to set off, i was taught to lay it on, let it go off a bit then use a sponge float to pull the fat up then trowel it off as normal. personally i dont think i will ever use it again

    I'd go with the spunky option, or the cheaper option would be thermalite plasterboard. I assume its your place, why not use it to practice on and put an c&m render on it and then skim it, however the above options will keep the place warmer!     you wont have a problem with that, as already stated masonry paint will dry really quick, i can get a second coat on after a couple of hours of putting the first on it sets that quick!
