    I think they are both British gypsum - I was left with some fragments when I demolished the cupboard and it had be same label on the back as the new stuff.

    Ok, great - thanks guys - I think I have a way forward! Frist I will try wayners suggestion of cutting a RH internal mitre into the piece which is already in situ. If that goes pear-shaped then I just make a straight cut about a metre away and replace with a new length which I will cut a RH...
