High Guys,
I have a couple of bays to render in mono. They sweep out at the bottom forming a slow sweeping curve. Is there a scratcher on the market or a technique that will make the finish possible? TIA
Ive seen that work at stoke rochford hall, incredible stuff. They are artists, not plasterers. Its just nice to know that the same quality of work can be duplicated today
Dont know if Im on the same wave length? but in the past Ive used two strips of plywood to form a stop on a curved wall (one 10mm screwed to the brick and a 6mm screwed on top of that) depending on how tight the curve is, you might have to put saw cuts in the back of the 10mm piece.
I would definately go for a dedicated power scraper. They are light enough to use all day and seem to go on forever. The rotary SDS drill/chisels will burn out in no time and the demolition hammers, while very powerfull, will have your arms droppin off after 20 mins. I use the Makita HK1800 ;)
If you spent 3 days pricing that job up, that’s 3 days labour lost on a job you might never win!
Try estimators-online.com who charge £82.25 to price up a domestic extension regardless of size. The returned spec is incredibly detailed in both labour and materials and well worth the money. I...
I notice that a lot of posts go into a lot of detail in trying to describe a procedure or situation. Some have a problem ceiling or wall and are asking for advice etc, etc. A few shots with your mobile or camera and loaded onto here could say a lot more than text. Even a few shots of jobs your...
I've only ever worked with S&C. But I have thought about trying to get some experience in working with the modern rendered finishes. Its being used on a lot of sites at the moment. Does anyone know of any training in the west mids?
A good alternative to building paper is the breathable under slating felt such as CROMAR or PERMAVENT. Can be a bit pricey, but should pick up a 50M roll for £30-£35. Folds and cuts like cloth and will take render and plaster ;)
Is there much tyroleaning goin on these days? Anyway, you know those rusticated quoins that run up the corners of a house or arches over doors and windows, in fact any decorative brickwork that needs to be maintained as a feature. Well, mix some sand with plenty of plasticiser in a bucket with...
Iv'e built a few ingle nook fireplaces over the years that were rendered at the back with a standard 6:1:1 sand/cement/lime. They were all being fitted with wood burners. Never had any come back.
You could check out THE SOLID FUEL ASSOCIATION for advice
Jim, if it's any help, I think you'll find that JT Matthews are as competitive as the rest, but I did see a single membrane rubber roof system on sale at ALLTRIM Plastics (01902 366966) in Willenhall a few months back. Can't remember the prices but at the time it seemed very reasonable
You could ask for say £50 deposit to confirm their booking , personally i don't. i generally ask for a payment on the day of arrival though to cover materials etc, that is of course if you've delivered some of the materials. stage payments there after

Class 'B' engineering have little suction so I tend to either 1) Apply SBR/cement slurry with a soft hand brush in a stipple pattern 2) Fix expanded metal lath with Hilti nails or stainless penny washers and screws 3) Grind out the horizontal bed joints to 10mm.
Sometimes a combination of the...
Simplybesty is spot on. I've only ever used fairy in emergencies and that has been rare, if we've run out of Feb and there's no builders yard for miles. It needs to be added in small doses compared to proprietary admixes. Too much air entrainment does weaken the mix. For the sake of a few quid I...
Well , I've just fathomed out how to work this thing. After checking this forum out for a good few weeks, I must fall into the category of those that are lurking around which makes me feel like some kind of deviant or something. :( I was happy just browsing until it was all shut down cos Danny...
