    Any ideas?

I had this on stairwell walls a few months back. I Pva'd it first to see would it lift or bubble. In the end I gritted it and Skimmed it the next day and I had 2 little blisters on about 50m2.

    Plastering in Australia

You'll be lucky to get into Oz in the next 12 months. There's Australians living abroad who can't even get back into the country at the minute and there's an 18 month waiting list. Bypass Oz and head to NZ southern island, plenty of work in Christchurch still after the earthquake flattened...

Anyone tried the new plaster in B&Q 'Make Good' (seen it in other places too) I was Impressed

Had to fill in chases on bathroom walls in an office block yesterday. Thought I would experiment a bit and used MG quick drying bonding and easifill on top. Came out lovely, prefer it to BG Bonding it dries in an hour or less. the chases were deep and needed 2 coats. Had 8 Bathrooms finished...

Anyone tried the new plaster in B&Q 'Make Good' (seen it in other places too) I was Impressed

Sorry I meant to say it was the PB adhesive I used not the finish. Did a bit of patching yesterday and mixed some BG bonding I had left in a bag in with the make good stuff. Worked fine and skimmed over it today with BG multi finish, which is nice to work with at the minute.

Anyone tried the new plaster in B&Q 'Make Good' (seen it in other places too) I was Impressed

I used 6 bags of it last week, nice to mix up, smooth, workable for 45 mins or so. The MG bonding on the other hand was horrible stuff to use, took ages to go off. Trying the quick dry Bonding on Friday see how that goes.

    Cracks

But if you scrim the joint it also eliminates the chance of cracking, the same as the joint between plasterboard.

    Baumit Kp36 W Plaster

It might be similar to Bauwer, it is a German product which the builder has never seen or used before and he was asking me if I ever used it. There is not much info on it online so it must be a new product. It goes on 10mm minimum for basecoat and 5mm for top coat. Am I right in saying it will...

    Cracks

PVA the bead first, bead on, scrim down both sides, bit of bonding on top of scrim then skim it. Never had a bead crack and I always say to the customer if it cracks let me know and I'll pop back and fix it.

    Baumit Kp36 W Plaster

Has anybody got any experience using this stuff. This is used as a basecoat and also a top coat. Its going to be used on new block work and concrete ceilings in an Eco house. Just wondering how it behaves, because its Lime based can you fire a load on as it won't dry as quick as S&C?

    Ragni 14' Flexlite trowel

Used the Ragni Flexilite on a ceiling this morning, much prefer it to the Nela s*p*r*lex. Not as flexible as the Nela which I think is better and the blade should last longer, maybe slightly heavier but the handle is comfy. All round good trowel and Multi is nice to throw on for a change

Must of been a sore one for the Ram:sorprendido3:

Can I have your opinion on the plastering job please?

Was it done by Stevie Wonder Plastering Services? I would call the Plastering police as soon as possible.
  13. Shamrock78

    Corner trowels

This Ragni one is the best I've used. Straight out of the box and doesn't leave any lines with the rounded corners (y)
  14. Shamrock78

    Ragni 14' Flexlite trowel

Corner trowel is brilliant, straight out of the box, nice crisp edges and no lines. I always thought they were a cheap and cheerful brand really surprised by the quality. (y)

    Ragni 14' Flexlite trowel

Yes Smoother it was cheaper than a Nela or Refina, I bought the Ragni Corner trowel a few weeks ago so I thought I'd give them another try.

    Ragni 14' Flexlite trowel

My Nela s*p*r*lex has served me well so I thought I would get a backup trowel.just to be on the safe side and xame across this Ragni one. Will put it through its paces next week. Nice and light with a comfy high handle. Anyone else got one?

    Splayed angles

I always use regular angle beads and open up the wings. Screw the beads on, scrim both sides and fill out the angles with bonding if needed and Skim to your hearts content.

Unhappy with plastering job - cold bridge roof to blame?

It looks like he dipped his labourers head in the bucket and used him to brush the multi on. That is the roughest finish I've ever seen. There is no way a time served competent Plasterer did that. How much did they charge for that? It makes my blood boil when you know there are good...

    Multi

I asked in B&Q if there was a limit on how much I could take, they said a trolley load. I managed to get 15 on and 3 bags of bonding, they never batted an eyelid, although I am in there quite regular.

    Help identify plaster technique

I've got a few rooms in a house to do with a finish like that but not as thick. I knocked a bit off and it was actually Bonding underneath with 10 coats of paint on top. Apparently the previous customers wanted a Mediterranean look years ago and ended up with that.

    Smelly multi

Mystery solved!!!! I got a smell like plasticiser while Skimming a room yesterday, I thought it had been spilled on the floor.

    WHERE IS THE PLASTER?????

There's pallet loads of BG plasters in B&Q where I am. 12 pallets up on the racking and 4 pallets on the shop floor. They're selling Turkish plasterboard for £15 a sheet.

    Covering these bricks

I did mention a sledgehammer funnily enough.:) He wants a smooth finish on the outside and if he doesn't like it he will rip it out remove the chimney. He said 'I just want it done, I'll pay you an hourly rate plus materials if its easier'. I've used that Vitcas stuff in the past and its...

    Covering these bricks

Hi folks, what is the best way to cover these bricks. Sand, cement and lime or heat resistant Plaster. Customer wants a smooth render finish on the outside but is willing to just paint the inside if its a ball ache to do. The stove gives off a lot of heat and the room has a sloping glass roof...

    Artex asbestos

Depends on the type of artex, light stipple, 2 coats of PVA and away you go. Anything heavier and I either overboard or couple of scoops of Bonding in the first coat and 2 coats of multi when it picks up. Never scrape it and never mention asbestos to customers as it scares a lot of them.

    Make good skim coat ????

Never heard of it, is it new?:p
  31. Shamrock78

    Make Good

As I said previously surely it takes months to test a new formula and not weeks. What happens if a Plasterer has used the first batch that wasn't tested in someone's house and it falls off a ceiling after a month? Surely the Plasterer isn't responsible and I can't see Make Good paying to have it...
  32. Shamrock78

    Make Good

The first batch was complete sh**e so how the f**k can they tinker about with it and have it extensively tested in a matter of weeks and back on the shelves that fast. Surely product testing should take months to complete not only for applying it on different surfaces but also for different...

This post was started 3 years ago mate, I doubt he's still looking for guys, although never say never;)
  34. Shamrock78

    Make good multi skim.

Take it back to the merchants and buy Thistle multi finish instead is the best advice.

    Cheap-ish mixers

There is always that risk I guess but I think that is unfortunate, I got an Eibenstock 3 years ago, never misses a beat and would be surprised if it doesn't last another 5 years at least.
  38. Shamrock78

    Cheap-ish mixers

Buy cheap, buy twice. It gets said on here all the time.(y) If you can't afford to fork out £300 for a megamixer you can get interest free credit for a few months with PayPal credit(I did it a few years ago) or some online dealers will do the same, Even a cheap decent mixer is going to cost you...

Self employment, is it really worth it?

Is that Craigievar Castle? Im about half an hour from it, been in the grounds but never inside.
  41. Shamrock78

Self employment, is it really worth it?

Its got its pros and cons mate. Work as much as you want, take days off when you like, work life balance, nobody to answer to. Listen to your own radio station. Nobody to talk to if you work alone, no holiday pay. Everyone wants you at the same time, phone doesn't ring for 2 weeks and then...

    Sourcing Plaster....

I think B&Q ordered in loads of MAKE GOOD multi to fill the gap until they got BG multi back on the shelves, nobody is buying it cause its shi*e and now they are left with pallets of the stuff.
  43. Shamrock78

    Sourcing Plaster....

I was told in B&Q today there is no limit to the amount of bags of plaster you buy in store once you can fit it on your trolley. Larger delivery orders have to be done online but you can't order a pallet. Make of that what you wish. All their plasterboard had 'Make good' on the wrapping.
  44. Shamrock78

    Sourcing Plaster....

B&Q are back to fully stocked with multi, bonding and some board finish. All the make good has been shifted to the timber section to slowly go out of date!!!!! Soon all these D**kheads with their overpriced plaster on ebay will be slashing the price to try and get rid of it all, fill your boots...

Yes the same as multi, board sets a bit faster mate.
  47. Shamrock78

    Board finish

80% cold water, 20% hot water(from a kettle) in a small bucket, empty the contents from the bag slowly into the bucket, leave for 20 minutes. Scrim all the joints, go back and mix the powder with a whisk. Then 1 coat @ 15mm or 2 coats @ 7.5mm. Loads of water as it dries and finish with a...

    Make good plaster

I've not used it yet but from what I've seen online the timings and water ratio are different to using multi finish. 11.5 litres of water for 25kg of multi 17 litres of water for make good (which seems a lot for the same size bag). They say to use a lot more water with make good when towelling...
