Which plastering job is better and why?

Not used Red Devil, but looks like it's premixed and ready to use and probably has similar use to easi fill. Easi fill comes in large bags or individual sachets which you have to mix with water. Wear a mask as it will produce a lot of sanding dust.

That's pretty shocking tbf. Bag of easi fill will sort out the bad bits.

Overboarding ceiling that isn't going well need advice

Don't blame you, some prick thinking they can do what you do day in day out easily. Difference is I don't think it's easy and I completely respect any trade and know that you are very skilled at what you do. But I do really enjoy doing it though and like learning, plus it's refreshing change...

Overboarding ceiling that isn't going well need advice

What seemed to screw me is working off a wall, the wall clearly isn't straight hence why the boards are not meeting nicely. Rookie mistake I guess.

Overboarding ceiling that isn't going well need advice

I thought this would probably be ok. Only thing I was thinking is to make sure it's supported at the edges either side of the cut with drywall screws into the joist.

Nah mapped out the joists using a chalk line and screwed at every joist along the run

Overboarding ceiling that isn't going well need advice

Love the banter on here knew I was getting a ripped a new one :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. I know it's proper s**t and was half debating ripping it down and getting someone in with half an idea. So would you not bother cutting out the sections that have cracked/blown? Surely not a good idea to skim...

Overboarding ceiling that isn't going well need advice

Currently overboarding a ceiling for the first time and to be honest I've made a right hash of it. But I love diy and wanted to try although I completely respect that it was never going to be 100% simple for a first timer on their own. Done a few boards on my own then some with help and I've...

    Plastering Up To An Angle

I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean?

    Plastering Up To An Angle

Ok so flatten off the first coat straight away, then again shortly after. Wait, then lay on second coat. I think most of where I am going wrong is on the timing aspect then!

    Plastering Up To An Angle

Cheers both. Yes 100% agree with that!! One thing I seem to struggle with on artex ceiling is making sure the stipples can't be seen. Although the surface is flat they can still be seen slightly. That's why I added bonding to the first coat and made both coats thick. It still didn't seem to be...

    Plastering Up To An Angle

Just out of curiosity, on the first coat would you flatten off straight away after laying on or let it pick up for a bit?

    Plastering Up To An Angle

Cheers, I appreciate the feedback. Yeah I did lay on the second as soon as I had flatten off the first. Should wait a bit longer eh?

    Plastering Up To An Angle

I appreciate your comments and it's good to know how it should look, but in fairness your picture is head on, without lighting. Have you got any side on shots? I would be interested to see.

    Plastering Up To An Angle

I appreciate the feedback, I'm still learning and certainly do not class myself as any kind of professional but it's good to hear where I'm going wrong and how to improve. The pictures to be fair dont really do it justice and are highlighting areas which look worse than what they actually are.

    Plastering Up To An Angle

Lol yes I do. Done a few already ceilings already. 3:1 pva day before, 3:1 on the day, wait till tacky, lay on multi, flatten off, lay on second, flatten off, wet trowel, dry trowel? May mix a bit of bonding into first mix to bulk out due to artex. Could overboard but not going to.

    Plastering Up To An Angle

Many thanks for the reply fellas. As you have a probably guessed I'm only a DIY'er but I do enjoy plastering. I will post up a pic when I have done it. Going to scrape the high spots & first coat PVA tonight, then probably skim tomorrow night (obv will PVA again!). Will probably lose the beads...

Haha! No that was my Mrs using easi fill as there was a dado rail there before. Still needs sanding down obv. I'm getting the house to the standard in pics below. Working from top to bottom on the house. Skimmed the ceiling in this bedroom, built wardrobes, architraves, skirting, extended ring...

    Plastering Up To An Angle

Hi I'm just about to plaster my ceiling in my hallway downstairs. It is connected at an angle to the small ceiling as you go up the stairs which has already been plastered and only needs painting.

Can I avoid plastering over this too and just doing the hallway ceiling with a stop...
