Knauf Airless Day In Sittingbourne 16 March 2018

Ah yeah its just life isn't it. A biggish job with about two months work fell through on us at the last second and then with all the bad weather before Christmas three private house that should of been ready before now aren't even ready yet so left a bit of a hole to be filled. As always...

Knauf Airless Day In Sittingbourne 16 March 2018

Only kidding anyways. Unfortunately work has been held up here a lot since Christmas and only going to get back into a right run of it on Monday so like the song goes "money's too tight to mention". Ah not that bad but a busy while ahead so it will be head down for a while like.

Plasterer 'hanged himself live in chatroom' on Christmas morning

Unfortunately there has been a serious increase in the amounts of suicide cases in our part of the country over the last twenty years or so. Fortunately though depression is no longer a (dirty word) and there is far more understanding and people are far more educated towards it. The singer...

    xtra lite v mediflex

Definitely have to agree there with yea. Only use the medi on the last rub butility like all things plastering timing and conditions are most important

nela s*p*r*lex gold or just s*p*r*lex

Duffys tool shop in Ballina near the post office stock some of the Nela trowels. Not a bad man to deal with either @hail hail
  14. I

    Any dvd/youtube/book recommendations?

Welcome along. As the lads say the books wouldn't be much use to you. It's as much about the feel of the trowel and experience wich you only gain through practice
  15. I

    What one...... Again!!

I have a Nela mediflex for about the last six months or so. Only really use it on the last trowel and find you can finish a bit sooner with it. As in less black in the wall. I will say this though it's not always suitable. Sometimes you do need the good old reliable Marshaltown for the gauge...

    expanding

Any fella I trained up on the tools over the years always started labouring. As I explain to them some day they are going to need to be able to train up a labourer themselves. As @Nicm pointed out though if you don't get them young enough there's not much chance in moulding them into what you...

    Scud the blockwork

Yea it's getting more and more that way over here too. Boys with business degrees and then have a few codgers on day work for the shitty bits and then give out crazy prices. Had one ringing lately wanting skimming done (over others sand and cement :envidioso) In stairwells for €4 a metre. Guess...
  23. I

    Scud the blockwork

L That's pretty piss poor alright. Better if you can walk measures really cos as we all know floor area can mean way different amounts of wall area.

    Scud the blockwork

Years ago when I started nearly everything was scudded but in the boom that all went by the wayside. I only really scud if the need is there. As in the block layers muck having been laced with mortiser, the joints been left shiny from the back of the trowel from them or so on. Or of course the...

I have an idea who the nut job you refer to is and wouldn't particularly like being compared to him. You are starting to remind me very much of another lad from this county !!!!

    plasterers salary 2017

Some in Mayo are busy but an awful lot of lads are in Dublin or other places working. There is a few pockets of work here and there around mayo but yet there are areas with nothing at all happening. As agreed though plot plus expenses =far more than finished product value unfortunately...

As I said in a later post, balance became an issue in the end. Lucky enough I was up against a wall

Was years ago mate and she was definitely one of the wilder girls you'd meet  Was just something different to try for her. Balance became an issue though at the end :frenetico:
  37. I

    Ever get the come on?

Ha ha. Don't matter to me if someone else god knows where in the world believes me or not. Just stating the facts of the question that was asked. Have had plenty of flirting but that's the only real action (unfortunately )

    Ever get the come on?

Got BJ when I was on the stilts once. From the customers daughter.

Just what your used to it suppose. Doing it both ways for years so just used to it I suppose
  40. I

    Corner trowel twicher tips

I do it both with and without a corner trowel. If the gauge is going fast it's harder to keep the line from the edge of some of them out of it, also just something else to be doing if your under pressure. If it's put on neat in the first place there's no problems trowelling it out rightly at...

    Problems with customers prep

Take it on the chin mate. Tell her she ain't doing no more prep work for you as this is where the problems stem from. If she says no to you doing the prep work well then it's your choice to stay or go. More than likely your going to end up being the big baddie in all this. Customers like that...

    Fell off a ladder

Was on a two storey roof before to redo a chimney. Slates were stripped back from the Base of the chimney (just not enough) Anyways as I went to move from one side to the other for nailing the stop beads I missed my footing and ending up sliding a fair distance down the roof. Hammer rapidly...

    Plaster cracked after I left

Heat plus that sort of suction don't make for a happy plasterer :tarjetaroja: Sbr/uni bond and redo. Tell the client though the temperature has to be dropped a lot though to allow for normal drying even straight after you've finished
  45. I

    External rendering questions

Unfortunately mate if you don't know what your doing in this game, wich by your questions you don't then the finish is the problem. Not trying to be smart with you just realistic

    External rendering questions

Listen to what the fellas are trying to tell you (in so many ways ) Get a plasterer and get the job done right the first time. Will be money well spent in the long run and inevitably work out cheaper. The whole hostility thing you may have sensed is because we've nearly all had a failed...

No the labourer was mixing it for the machine. It's really only for skimming this machine to the best of my knowledge. Will find out the exact one it is on Tuesday (if I think) been as I won't see him till then. I haven't really had much to do with it TBH as I'm usually spatting and troweling...
