Well gentlemen I thank you for your informative replies. I've heard it's s**t work but I would like the experience so if it's s**t and I make s**t money for a week it's not the end of the world is it?
Still not really got any pointers on where to start yet. If anyone has a suggestion do let me...
Hi all.
Probably the wrong place to post this but I am wondering how I find work plastering on a site? I've been domestic plastering for the last twelve months and I'd like to try some mindless skimming on board for a bit for the experience but not being from a trades background I've never even...
I did a three week course with Silver Trowel in Portsmouth. It was suppose to be two weeks setting (with a day of boarding) and a week floating. I was pretty s**t... So they let me spend three weeks skimming and said I could go back for the floating at no charge which I did later.
This is all...
I was taught (on short C&G course) that all floating and rendering should be done with the box method. Today floated out a wall using strip of plasterboard and it was a doddle.
The idea behind the box screed is to make your own panels to level from. It does work but takes time... Unless you...
It makes so much mess. I did a job on a semi detached house and had to go next door and clean the neighbours garden after scratching it back!

Chichester, but I vaguely know Hook and have SatNav :)
I'm newish to plastering (six months) and can lay on fine but the boss usually finishes (wet trowel etc) hence why I only offer to help and not take on the job! But free this weekend to labour or lay on.

I was taught on the plastering course that when your plaster suddenly starts going off really quickly for no apparent reason it's because Danny is having a s**t fit somewhere.

That makes sense because I went to the records office and Danny doesn't have a birth certificate...
Are we all in Danny's Matrix?!

I heard there were complications during delivery due to Danny's baby's tool belt.
PS: dunno what this is all about but thought I'd get involved :)

Customer is looking for a float and set but due to the nature of the building (really old) she wants the plaster to look like the old stuff and she plans to seal it and not paint it to give a rustic feel.
Anything spring to mind? Any significant cons to said plan of applying a clear sealant...
It's really immasculating I'm sure, but I looked at a Nissan eNV200 which is an electric van! 150 mile range, great warrenty and basically costs 2p per mile in fuel. Hard to beat that. Plus if you're lazy or a bit of a cripple like me it's an automatic. Starting at £17k new, plenty of really low...
Tyvac in place of sarking felt yeah? Doesn't so much apply to the shed build as it's got roofing felt which i figure is different?

I'll defo do breathable. I'm not sure if the current felt is breathable...
I'm not entirely sure what sort of heater I'll use (presently got a small electric blower thing) by point was more to get feedback on such types, particularly if any is more prone to causing moisture.
RE a loft...
Sorry for absence of responses...
Floor is already polystyrene between the timbers. No membrane. This was installed as part of the shed order.
RE insulation and heating: I will be hearing the shed with electronic blower or oil filled radiator or a halogen but it won't be gas powered or...
Mate, winter is coming for all of us :)
I'm happy to travel for an interesting job which will teach me something new, even if I just break even on travel expenses.
Keep that in mind and thanks for the kind words.

I've got an estate. It's like a van but with windows and space so you can store really long feather edges from the boot doors to the front window. Some might say it's better than a van. Some might say it's not a van still. They'd be right, but it gets me to work with all my tools! It'll be fine...
Right so I can make the tea, clean buckets and get various types of gear on the wall.
I've been really lucky and have been working for a great chap off the forums in Horsham which is about a 70mile round trip for me. I don't mind the drive, and I intend to continue working for this chap as long...
I'm looking for work... Got some experience. Looking to improve! Plus, I'm a pro - I've got my own Trowel and everything ;)

Sorry Mr theshed, but I don't quite follow...
Should I use the membrane as I described? Plus the polythene you suggested?
I was going to put the electrical cable horizontally through the frame, drilling through the uprights to cater for it. Same for the ceiling, was just going to drill through...
That's what I'm aiming for with regards to internal finish. Did the list I put up (the order of things etc) miss anything other than polyurethane?

Celotex board type stuff I figured maybe polystyrene but celotex appears to be about 20% more effective.
Do you have any suggestions?

I had a shed built a couple of years ago (12x12) and I put a bugger load of celotex type insulation in and then boarded over it. Depth of cavity between timbers is 70mm for walls and 150mm for ceiling.
I had huge problems with damp and condensation and was told that I should have done the...
Hi guys I think I'm paying over the odds. Where do I go for the cheapest gear generally? I think I'm paying near £8 a bag for multi at Buildbase...

Be warned tho, you must have the trailer part on your liscense. I took my test about ten years ago and can't pull a trailor. I've never had a problem yet...
