thanks for all the advice ..I intended to post this in the beginners section, but it ended up here by mistake
its a reskim, and the original plaster is flat with the doorframe for some reason so no edge to work up to, the gap between wood and wall is only 1mm or so, very tight sliding in the...
no joke m8, im new at this, but I'v noticed spreads seem to have little techniques for almost everything, so I thought I would ask before I make c**t of it, skimming upto a wall seems easier to me than skimming up to a bead ..meaning getting 2 coats to finish exactly with the top of the...
got to skim up against 'fine mesh corner bead' round a door frame and wondering the best way to go about this ..trying to judge the level over 2 coats seem a little tricky
thanks for the replies all ..very helpful
that makes sense, the bottom part of the wall was ok ..as its old perfectly flat and uniform plaster surface...in the pic from about 6" below the nail in the doorframe and up to the ceiling is where someone has used some kind of filler leaving uneven...
first attempt as skimming.....read a few threads on here on what causes tiger stripes etc ...not sure if this is what i have ...cant really feel them by hand but can see them ..looks like the surface of the wall went off at different times(first coat showing thro?) but got flattened in(see mid...
cheers chris, it will be prob be tomorrow or later ..+ good to know in the future it can be done straight after
ps
the surface was slightly uneven to start with, think the the problem was I didnt put it on thick enough to get a good level ..was 3-4 mm in most places but patches of 1mm due to it...
final polish done , doesn't look great
..how long will it take before it be redone?
..5:1 pva and repeat the usual 2 coat process or something different?

cant have too many replies ..this is my first real attempt at plastering and trying to absorb as much as possible so multiple opinions are very helpful ...specially when you get 'why' with 'how'
..practice: small storage cupboard ..4 walls, doorframe, ceiling + lathe repair
in the spirit of...
one last question
on both sides of the door frame there's about 3-4" strip of wall level with the door frame ..a skim would take it higher ..what to do?
never done this before,
the lathes seem in decent nick but they also seem gappy to me ...I was thinking of covering the lathes in scrim tape to give the hardwall a better footing..but maybe this is wrong? ...also how long does hardwall need to dry before going over with multi?
thnx
thats what I thought ...then got confused when i seen the b&q ones are synthetic bristle ..yet the one in the pic is supposed to be pure bristle ..hence question 2
is this the one you have?
ht...
