Thank you for this, I haven't had much experience with Damp and it quite daunting when you're renovating a flat and the client asks why the bathroom is lagging.
I'll get back in Monday and tear away the tape. Put a roofing batten down and re-dab on top of that.
Couldn't thank you enough!
So when the permagard is installed it’s pinned to the wall with the plastic plugs with the seals to prevent damp coming though right?
What’s to stop damp coming though the gap at the bottom where the permagard meets the floor?
I’m not questioning you, I’m just trying to understand the system...
And no there is not drainage channel. I’ve also used the fleece strips to keep the bottom of the permagard tight to the wall to prevent movement for the dabs. I take it this should be removed for airflow as well?
They may be a stone wall backed onto one of the external walls.
The other side of the door lining in the picture still has the old Newton lath with a grey undercoat and skimmed. There are no problems on this wall.
Hi,
Started a bathroom renovation a few weeks back and noticed some tiles on one of the external walls was bowing so decided to investigate as the tiles needed to come off anyway.
The old Newton lath circa 1970s (Which I was told on here) has perished but didn't seem to be any damp coming...
So we have cut away the plasterboard 400mm from the floor all the way around the external walls. The plaster hasn’t properly dried out and it had been a week since plastering. There is moisture in the internal side of the permagard membrane. Would the plaster and dabs create moisture on the side...
If it has returned, and let's say the waste to the toilet has been properly sealed. is this fillet seal in conjunction with their tanking potentially solve the problem.

Ok, Thanks, I will go around the bottom and clean it up.
I've put a heater in that corner and it has seemed to of dissipated. I'm back there Monday so will see if it has returned.
Hello again
Permagard Installed, Dabbed and limes but this damp patch In the corner of the room is a bit worrying.
Before the original wall came down there was a small are already like this but presumed it was the perished Newton lath.
Any suggestions?
Does this mean I have to dig up...
Hello all,
I've recently started re-modernising a bathroom and noticed that the wall behind the tiles had some play to it. I originally thought it was plasterboard but after a closer inspection, it was a damp proof membrane with what looked like sand/cement topped with a skim.
The membrane had...
- Get paid well with Minimal effort
- Leave a perfect finish every time
- can’t remember the last time I had to call out for work

We have had this problem (Tigering) for a while and experimented and found this routine is perfect. We add water early to reduce resistance between the wall and the trowel. They are a few main reasons why it happens
Have heard loads of gangs moaning about multi finish changing and noticed it...
We have used Parex base coat and fine sand top coat plenty of times through a contractor on a day rate. We split off over a year ago and have been asked to price a house in the south west region and was curious to know the going rates per m2.
Thanks
