    Plasterer being aggressive to us

Maybe he's got mental health issues judging from the extreme moods like that. You won't have known that, people don't generally wear adverse mental health like shiczophrenia on their sleeve. Try to keep an open mind. Just concentrate on solving your problem now rather than the emotions, no...

You know what mate, I reflected on what you said and you're right. I gotta get out of the mindset where I feel as I'm losing more sq ft by having more Insulation. Instead, I should be feeling pretty good that where the wardrobes are in I've actually gained 50mm of premium space because the...

Making progress... Now, for the Insulation what's the correct way forward: Baton out the wall with 2x1, infill with Kingspan, 12.5mm pboard over the top. Or Dot n dab 37.5mm thermal boards? I'm leaning towards the baton option as I'll save a bit of space (I'm fighting for every cm as...

You're not wrong about the mess. Thankfully, its really just 2 walls when you take out the fitted wardrobes and windows, but will need a small skip. Wish I had one of those builders chutes now lol. Yeah 50mm would be ideal, like in new builds I guess, but as you know will reduce room size I'm...

Yep, I got the time right now being on furlough & I get to learn a thing or two about me own house. Plus it's makes good sense to pay a plasterer just to plaster. Usually the missus would help but she's 28wks n counting at the minute

Hey Chrispy, my thoughts exactly. I just don't want to take a mistep end up creating more work and expense. Fully justified on the external walls though to install the thermal boards.

Thanks for the tip FreeD, nice to hear from you again. Lol @ your comment! Haha, no they're good honest lads, work has been dry so he actually called me back wondering wether I was ready, and he got paid on demand, in cash on the last job, no complaints from either party. They did a very tidy...

Only reasons against, thus far, was 1. The skirting. I wanted to keep that intact and thermal boards would hang over it like a lip. But I guess I can just rip it off and although the wardrobes are scribed to the skirting, when the thermal boards are on, they'll cover that anyway. I can...

Going all out now, ripping the loose stuff back to brick, new windows to come, insulation boards to fill the gaps in the reveals. The brick and mortar underneath is really bad, I'm surprised my house is still standing. Too big a job for me and a bag of easifill, will sadly have to keep the...

The cracks under the window are down to water in the cavity condensing and trickling down through a gap in the window cill.. There's a great big whopping difference between where the inner leaf and outer leaf stop (outer leaf is more closed in), so the reveals splay out. Great big gaps...

He's damaged his shoulder painting his house and his mate was in isolation when I rang earlier, but he said gear was impossible to find anyway...that's when I wanted the entire room reskimmed. But if can get away with just some easifill and a trowel i can save myself the hazard of randoms coming...

Lol, actually bought for a full skim of the entire room a few days ago when Selco reopened! It's disgusting what they're going for on eBay at the minute, i was lucky enough that my mate was gonna order some for a job and added an extra 5 on for me.

Hello guys & Jess Hope everyone's managed to dodge Corona thus far. I'm back cos I need some advice. This is the final room in our house that, despite moving in 4 yrs, i just never got round to sorting. Basically been a dumping ground for the whole house. However, found out there's an addition...

    Heater or dehumidifier recommendations

This is what I discovered: Every electric heater is 100% efficient, however you want a convection heater when drying plasterer so the heat spreads evenly. A higher air temperature increases the ability of air to carry (more) water vapour. This is called relative humidity. So if the amount of...

Why are quotes all over the shop?

It's a good finish, smooth as baby's backside. Plan to have all veluxes slightly ajar and doors wide open during the day. Hoping to get some paint on this Saturday. What do you think- too ambitious?

Why are quotes all over the shop?

All done today. I liked that they taped the upvc frame to protect it from splashing skim and also scored the bit where the door frame meets the reveal, but left tape on until after painting. Apparently that will stop the plaster on the reveal being ripped off as the tape is removed and stop...

Why are quotes all over the shop?

They were in, but a slow day me-thinks (I could be wrong- they do two coats so perhaps that's why it took longer to even the undulations between rafters and to get the lines straight etc) Just the splays and velux reveals done today. They're back tomorrow...

Where were you 20 pages ago!!? Good, proper sensible advice. Wonder how many people would step out of their comfort zone (d&d) and actually use the foam...? I think I can count posts like this on one hand on this site.... Been reading some of the "tell me what to do!" posts in the DIY section...

Honestly did not know they existed, but blimey @ £45/sheet thats mighty expensive & although an effective vapour barrier, the insulation will be barely noticeable. Yep I know I've definitely cut a corner here, but im hoping I luck out. I've made my peace with reduced level of insulation/thermal...

So anyway the senior guy did his 7 year - yep 7 YEAR- apprentice with a firm called Phillips which has since gone tits up but he says it was a great firm to train with cos they taught him every aspect even down to mixing his own plaster for coving. But now lamenting how someone does a 6 month...

What stands most proud on a typical wall- cable clips or something like that? Do you aim to get your board as tight as possible to this? That's a gap of about 7mm... Most work I've seen, even when the walls are true will easily leave something like 12-15mm.

Lol I think they trust their nails... However they do have a Makita drywall screwdriver each so there's definitely a bit of investment there!

Why are quotes all over the shop?

I have insulated between the 6" rafters with 4" kingspan & the floor has 6" kingspan. Ideally I would have insulated the walls too, however: 1. I really need to maximise the space. 2. The building will be inhabited for approx 4-8hrs/week. When cold, i'd have the heating on anyway. How much...

Yeah I don't get it either, I mean it's low, but they come highly recommended (for the quality of their work) and they've always been professional in their conduct - appointments, punctuality, advice on how to go about it. Why are quotes all over the shop?

Tbh, yes, the risk of condensation & rot on the cold faces of the rafters did bother me and if it was gonna be inhabited all the time it i'd definitely get the foil backed pb. But how long will it take before the condensation starts to cause rot in the rafters in this situation? We talked...

Lol, Cos I just hadn't decided what I wanted to with the place, whether it was just gonna be summat for storage and a tumble dryer in which case what's the point in skimming or insulation, water, internet, heating etc. In the end I've decided it's gonna be a man cave. Will get a either half...

We had an extension done. This is the before and after. The old garage was demolished and new one built further up the garage.
