    Tiling on Hardwall

Ffs you can’t pva or sbr before you use porcelain tiles. They stoped that about 10 years ago because it fails Jesus Christ

Plastering Charges v brick laying fees

If your a bricklayer you will be lucky to get 10 months in out of the year. If your a sparky or a gas man you have to pay for regulations and if your a chippy you need 10k of tools. If you skim on site you need a bucket hawk trowel and a 100 quid mixer. Painters get more then site plasterers now ffs

Plastering Charges v brick laying fees

I only really work on price. I’m talking about normal plastering like hardwall not lime

Plastering Charges v brick laying fees

Problem with plastering is if lads can skim they are a plasterer even tho they can’t float render or screed. If your a bricklayer you can either lay bricks or not. In my opinion people who can render and float should be on a minimum of £250 a day because the is lack of people who can do it

    Lime plaster conduit protection

That should be fine but you could go overboard and insulate with the foam lagging more so helps with condensation

    Tiling on Hardwall

No the tiller would. So the tiller has more then likely covered your arse and sealed it after he has finished so he doesn’t get a call back!

    Renovating 300 Year Old Cottage

Think might get into a bit of bother with that you should have really done a lime floor. I would advise to stay well clear of engineered wood now

    Tiling on Hardwall

No mate 15k for a bath not bathroom! How would you know do you pop back a few months down the line to check?
  9. L

    Tiling on Hardwall

High end jobs when your dealing with people who pay 15 k for a bath. Probably a bit different if your doing a b and q special. Yes 2 mm of skim does stop it!
  10. L

    Tiling on Hardwall

Use to have a huge contract with a big high street brand doing all the bathrooms. What a lot of plasterers and bathroom guys don’t no is if you tile on to neat bonding or hardwall it will eventually stain through the grout unless sealed. Sealing is another days work for tiler plus the sealer...

    Lime plaster conduit protection

Hi mate we always advise cables to put in the upvc oval conduit ( the tube like one ) And fix with stainless steel banding and stainless steel screws. Plastic and stainless steel is fine with lime so would try to avoid any thing else. If you are going for ufh always suggest trying to fit the...

    Renovating 300 Year Old Cottage

Not a keen fan on any of the pre bagged nhl and looking into it most contain cement. As your on stone needs to nhl based I’m not overly impressed with adding insulation to older buildings in renders myself I think it can be problematic

    Is this acceptable?

All really does depend all high end decorators would use a orbital sander with dust extractor on any plastering even new build between coats. They should be expected to do some level of prep especially on a old house even if it has been plastered!
  15. L

    Is this acceptable?

It’s quite hard to create a bulge in skim it’s only around 3mm thick I would say the wall was most probably like this in the first place but skimming up to the timber would enhance it. It’s not the end of the world and can be sorted and improved with decorating prep surely the guy who...
  16. L

    Is this acceptable?

You will never get a 100% job re skimming up to a rail. The is not enough profile to allow for any discrepancies and beading etc. The corner has not been angle tooled due to not being able to fit one in in the ideal world you would remove or timber work. Plasterer should have cut a angle tool...

    Damp Walls? I'm confused.com

You will be ok with internal lime this time of year as long as it’s 5 + inside the property and the gear is also kept inside. I would get a tradesman booked now as a lime guy is likely to be booked for a while then hack everything off and start the drying process and also give you more time to...

Wrong I’m afraid the property has been completed renovated with lime plaster 2 years ago the is no render or paint externally and has been completely repointed in lime the guy knows it’s the floor he was quoted to do it and didn’t you can’t see in the pictures I posted but the gaps in the wood...

Limecrete - Is there any point?

Unfortunately this is based on a test in a lab. As I said in my other post every single job is different design make up of build materials earth make up and so on its not as easy as yes or no. I’ve seen 650 year old property become damp due to a alter in the water table from new build houses on...

Limecrete - Is there any point?

That’s true but listed buildings are not the same as new buildings you can’t just do what you feel like you this is why they are listed. If your looking to buy a listed property you don’t get a choice you get told what to do and if you chance it without permission you will probably get a fine a...

Limecrete - Is there any point?

Lime allows moisture to pass through it where as sand and cement doesn’t which will trap all the moisture. The reason you can’t can’t a straight forward answer or explanation is due to the isn’t one! Every single old property is built different the is so many variables water tables cellars...

Limecrete - Is there any point?

Hi i think you have misunderstood geocell is basically glass the purpose of this is mainly insulation and bulk. If you use a Dpm the moisture will push from the slab up the walls to around a meter high even if you have lime plaster on the wall it will get damp and you will be forever decorating...

Limecrete - Is there any point?

Welcome to the forum. We replace a awful lot of floors in lime. What you will find in almost all circumstances damp will transfer from the concrete slab and up your walls.. I have seen really bad cases of this and am in fact starting one next week so will posts some pictures up. A floor normally...

    Shortages

If you don’t have the money or can’t borrow it you can’t tho extending your home now won’t put the value which it costs to even do it on your house if you have to pay someone to do it
  48. L

    Shortages

My mate who is a builder reckons the is an additional 30k in materials on a two storey extension he quoted this time last year and I can quite believe it. The average joe will just stop getting things done if it carries on at this rate
