    What is this? Sand?

I'm familiar with S&C, Bonding, Hard wall etc, but a lot of what we work with is D&D now days. I've come across this in an old 40's-50's property, It appears just sand. It seems pretty solid, but if you rub it, it'll just gradually 'dust off'. Been told it's very common on this estate, and...

Newly boarded and skimmed ceiling cracking?

I wont lie, I struggle to get 100mm of block work, even 5 to 10mm of d&d and a 9.5mm board back far enough to fit a 140 door casing. But yeah, i agree, block work needs to be near enough bang on.

Newly boarded and skimmed ceiling cracking?

I was told it's to get the clearence on a 140mm door casing. But in fairness, i can't see 6mm (3mm each side) gaining you enough.

Newly boarded and skimmed ceiling cracking?

Im not saying that's the reason they still make them. I'm asking if anyone else has noticed they seem to be being used more and more to dot and dab 100mm thermo blocks by big construction companies.

Newly boarded and skimmed ceiling cracking?

Anyone else seeing more and more 9.5mm being d&d onto thermolite blocks by big construction firms? I was told the logic is a better fit for a 145mm door casing.

Used to work with a plasterer a few years ago who would dot and dab over anything from bare brick/ block/ concrete, to existing painted plaster /stripped wallpapered walls. A couple of coats of watered down PVA and he was good to go. Always went along with this as he was a pro, and seemed to be...

Help - My worker has skimmed using Easi-filler

In fairness, your 'worker' isn't completely wrong. Its very common, especially in commercial, retail, office type environments to dot and dab / stud and board / tape and joint / skim with a filler of some type. We see a lot of pubs and shops done this way. The dryliners normally do the boaring...

    Cracks, Cracks and more Cracks

Hi First post here, so go gentle on me. I'm not a plasterer, but I've worked in property, developing, renovating etc, even involved with building, labouring and have worked with and for many plasterers over the years. 99% of the properties we've been involved with have never had problems, or...
