Make good multi skim any one managed to get any sort of consistent finish

Called in to P1 over lockdown for some render. This was the £30 for a bag of BG on on eBay era. Told by lad at counter that MG is great stuff, all comes from Turkey where the gypsum is purer than the stuff BG mine from East Leake (Loughborough way). I used it today, and I'm really f#cked off...

    Lockdown priming question.

Thanks lads. Had thought about stabiliser first, but can't face queuing at bnq. Was wondering whether to try to 'stabilise' it with a diluted SBR before the slurry, but sure the slurry alone with sort it.

    Lockdown priming question.

Sick of looking at my neighbours falling off render on a small patch of his gable end, so offered to sort it for him f.o.c, in between looking after the kids (any excuse to get away from them at minute). Trying to minimise the materials I need to get in. Got enough OCR left from a job to do it...

Thanks for replying on new year's day Ryan. I wouldn't have held it against you if you waited til Tuesday. I've already ignored one customer today  He's given me the drawings so I'll do a take off in the week and email you for a quote.

    Mapei on render board advice

Cheers mate. Only seen it stocked in selco and the price is crap (but that's selco). Where do you get it from? Is it the high flex base you use and if so could it be sponged and painted if that's what he wants to go for? He tends to go for the cheapest option as he sells em straight on.

    Mapei on render board advice

This is partially aimed at p1ss, but anybody elses input or alternatives would be greatly appreciated. Went to see a job before Christmas for a developer who we do loads of work for. He's adding a blockwork extension to a 30's engineering brick bungalow and wants to render the lot. To keep the...

    £160 Marshalltown trowel

Plastering's got one of the lowest setup costs of any of the trades, along with painting and decorating. You can get away with minimal tackle. Chippying, especially 2nd fix, is a bloody nightmare. You can buy cheap gear, but the boys with the best gear have the opportunity to do it quicker and...

Going over new and old backing plaster

Just thought it'd tie both the backings together. Plus I got 90% of a roll left over from a rendering job :) It seems to have worked well. I love the micro, but it was taking a long while for the bonding to go off. Just gotta force out some air blisters before I leave for night, that seem to...

Going over new and old backing plaster

Newbie alert, so please be gentle. Not looking for the online equivalent of being sent out the back for a tin of tartan paint/bucket of steam :) Recently went self employed, having done a fair bit of board n skim and render on cemboard on timber frame buildings (carpenter by trade originally...
