    Spanish Plaster

Hi all, I'm heading to Barcelona area to help friends who are renovating a house there. I'm a plasterer with 25 years experience in UK, but never used Spanish materials. It'll be mostly plastering onto those clay bricks, high suction no doubt. Could anyone recommend a product for going over...

Hi there, I'm heading to Barcelona area to help friends who are renovating a house there. I'm a plasterer with 25 years experience in UK, but never used Spanish materials. It'll be mostly plastering onto those hollow clay bricks, high suction no doubt. Could you recommend a product? I've heard...

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

There was not enough height above door openings etc to allow for this

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

It's a flat roof at the top of a stairwell, at some point in the last 30 years a skylight was installed, whoever did it cut through most of the joists, bridled several with a single 4x2" on joist hangers, then hung move joist hangers on the bridles and ran joists to narrow the opening. The...

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

The ceiling lath was swallowing tons of gear, a bag to a metre and a half area, on the first coat onto the lath (let's say pricking up/scratch coat) which I was then planning on doubling up (ruling/floating coat) but due to time constraints (we only had a fast left at this point) I boarded over...

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

Surely any moisture that would have damaged pb would damage a gypsum plaster such as the bonding coat I was using anyway? I suppose cement render is what you are thinking of?

What is a 'metal top hat ceiling'? Does this involve EML?

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

With a 3" sag over a 9' span of ceiling, there no way the 'odd packer' would have given a cost ceiling!

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

Yes I notched all the new 2" x2" counter battens these will result take the weight of this simple cornice

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

When you say board and float and set, do you mean pb, then bonding ruled off then finish?

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

It's a very old house, joists all over the place, I framed it round the edges with 2" x2", then notched the 2x2 counter battens over the sagging beams to get a level playing field, should have used breather paper aye, didn't think of that.. I got a 'scratch' cost on it so I can get a floating...

Ceiling sheeted in expamet then bond and set, is this advisable??

New labourer+new bonding recipe+I've never done overhead with with metal lath before, also need just brought up a better mix, going slightly better but two buckets of bonding, bag and a half say and I've only covered 2 metres, laboriously, and I'm not pressing it too far in before you say.. Multi- finish on fermacell

I've done a few fermacell jobs, 5-1 or 4-1 mix pva then skim never a problem. On a large ceiling recently which was very dry, at the ridge of a house, above wood stove, had been up two years before skimming so dry as a bone, sealed the day before with 5-1 then rolled on a coat of pva 3-1 morning...

Tiger stripes appearing more recently although skim is laid on and trowelled up in same way but same spreads with same MT trowels as always... The only variable is the gear. In situ cornice with bonding & multi?

Ah right, that's handy to know, thanks you I'm right up in the north of Scotland so it's difficult to get hold of casting plaster or lime putty at short notice.. Also, the nearest fibrous plaster workshop is over 200 miles away in Glasgow, hence the decision to run in situ. What mix of lime...

In situ cornice with bonding & multi?

Yep I was planning on a muffle/ baffle on the mould, allowing 5-10 mm for to coat. Only concern really is suction on the bonding for running a cornice... Should be fine if I get multi going soon as bonding is set?

In situ cornice with bonding & multi?

Thanks Tam. I like the idea of brushing on the final 'slip'.. The walls are surprisingly straight, checked em with 8ft feather edge and you would struggle to fit a rizla down the back of it.. The ceiling was Ali over the place though, I stripped the lime off, left the lath, will prob sheet over...

    Which plaster do you use?

The plan is to multi it soon as the bonding is set, no need to pva in that case as I think the bonding will shrug off the pva/ pva wrong adhere when bonding is still green in my experience but def will scratch it, was thinking of cutting teeth into the muffle ( baffle up here) explicitly for...

    Which plaster do you use?

I have a cornice to run at the top of a stairwell, a simple Georgian Scottish style, about 7" by 7", comprising of a relatively simple rail on wall and ceiling, with typical concave curve. It's been a long time since I ran a cornice, only ever did a few with my old journeyman and have run one or...
