    Darby / Seratted Darby

Any of you guys use a plastering darby for anything. The legend kirk Giordano uses it all the time for his stucco. Would love to use one for a traditional sand & cement render but there's no way you could straighten properly with the we thing.
  16. F

    Double edged Darby

How to bring the sand out

whats the best way to give the render the course look. Does a wet sponge bring out the sand. After rubbing it up its very smooth. Just would like the top coat to be more gritty looking after rubbing it.
  26. F

    skimspeed

Yes it might be the only thing to cure my curiosity. Nela or mtown or plazi there is loads of them
  27. F

  29. F

    Raised base

wont be much to worry about. Had thought of that already. Bands round windows pretty much has the same edge.
  30. F

    Raised base

yea same here. But not with the flat top included
  31. F

    Raised base

I will take a pic of it later. Its a 6ft feather edge with wooden edge fixed to it.
  32. F

    More crazing

yep. Too much cement. Mix it using buckets to get your mix ratio right. Course sand also
  33. F

    Raised base

i cut the 45 as normal then cut the top flat. Made a we device to cut the top flat without having to mark it. yes it is a heavy base. I scratched the house, then put on a 1 coat angle bead on the corners then put roofing lath on top of that as my depth.
  34. F

    Raised base

After rubbing up the render you have a 10mm flat top left over. Nice touch
  35. F

    Raised base

Anyone seen a raised base done like this before.

  39. F

    Gap between sheets (boardmate)

Does anyone here think there should be a 1-2 mm gap between the 8x4 sheets we use. The square ended sheets that go tight can move. I reckon there should be a gap.

    External rendering questions

Great idea. Go for it yourself. Keep us updated and don’t forget to be nice to the lads. They will prob be at your house getting paid in the near future. Just out of curiosity. Are you a plasterer
  44. F

    Ever get the come on?

You could probably get loads of stories but the lads probably scared of the wives reading their posts lol
  45. F

    Scud the blockwork

Yes I will scratch it out in 3 coats. How far is to far sometimes. Prob need a depth of near 40mm
  46. F

    Scud the blockwork

Are you talking about the dot and screed method
  47. F

    Scud the blockwork

Have to put a raised base on also. Needs to be thicker than normal. Normally go the thickness of a roofing lath. How thick is too thick before running into problems. Prob need done in 3 coats.
  48. F

    Scud the blockwork

I seen lads using sbr over the joints like pva to seal them. Said it stops them showing through
  49. F
