Yes still got a decent finish with it but its bloody hard work achieving it. It shouldn't be behaving like that, it never use to. I'm binning it off and trying multi for a bit or changing merchants for a while, see if that makes any difference.
Until you wipe the gear over on the first wipe it is absolutely fine, no lumps bits ripples etc. Its knocked up with a whisk. It goes on like every other guage of skim til you come to trowel it up.
Its gone like that after running the trowel over it, it isn't like that when it is laid down, it just looks normal, then when you wipe it over with the trowel it opens it all up and tears it, then leaves a mottled appearance like that.
It wasn't just on boards some of it was a re skim over a stabilizing solution and bonding agent. And the boards were only bought last week. So unless they have been sat in the merchants for an age they were new. I'm not the only one to have mentioned about how s**t this stuff is at the moment...
Its tearing and sliding all over the place, look how it has rolled up on my trowel. If it was too wet when trowelling it wouldn't do that. It is all rubbery and chewy. It was even doing it on the first coat when i was flattening it off. So it can't be anything to do with the timings of the coats...
No mate, its shite gear, i've used enough of it to know, it used to trowel up a dream. The bags i used for the guage before were fine. . . .? I do the same thing with them all.
Congratulations to British Gypsum on managing to turn a decent product into complete and utter shite.
Now i might not have 30 or 40 years behind me on the trowel but i have used enough board finish to know that the stuff that is getting sold lately is utter garbage. These pictures are after...
Morning,
Can anyone tell me the name of the paint that's made for going over K Rend to tidy it up. Heard it mentioned before but don't know what it's called. . . Cheers.☺
Not sure what you mean @Danny. Do you just want me to send a blank email from my home email address. Sorry if i've missed something and it's a stupid question.
Can't really explain it any simpler than that sorry. . . Hard to explain without you seeing it. When i have rivetted it apart from the colour difference, you wouldn't be able to tell it was there. They are dressed off completely flush with the faces of the trowel.
I make a new rivet and form a chamfer in both sides of the hole, then peen the rivet into the hole on a dolly and then dress it off. If you wanted to send it to me i'll do it for you. . .. its up to you, the offer is there.
I've just shirtened the rib on this particular one, then filled the hole it left behind. But i have also re rivetted ribs back on to the blade when they have popped.
I'll ask @madmonk to stick a piccy up of the one i rivetted for him. I've repaired a few of these now. I've also cut the ribs down on the back of the trowel and filled the hole that it leaves behind. I'd put a piccy of mine up that i have here but i don't know how to put piccys on lol.
Doing a job at the moment that was floated out in the 80's the reveals are pissed to **** and the finish is far from perfect, the skirting line is like the ocean waves. One reveal around one of the windows must have at least an inch of bow in it. Very poor, i think work should be judged on its...
Nice one. I've got 2 lurchers, cracking dogs. Is it a worker or just a pet. . . ? Looks a big dog, what's it crossed with, it's got the back legs of a wolf hound or some ert.
They look a nice bit of kit, if the blade was a somewhere near the thickness of the s*p*r*lex then that would be a winner. All the ones i've got and used in the past are way too thick. End up using a credit card type plastic thing to finish it off.
How do guys,
Has any one got any of the Putz margin trowels @ryan has got on the plasterers 1 stop shop website. . . , was thinking of having a set but don't want ewt thats mega rigid like most of the ones you buy. Just wondered if anyone else uses them and rates them as any good. . . .?
I've got a stainless one with the wooden handle. I've cut it down on the width to the size I like, but its my main skimming trowel and its a cracker. Its stayed nice and straight. Can't fault it tbh.
He's quality, I watched one programme with him on doing a garage conversion. He blocked up the old doorway in the morning and rendered the F*****g thing the same afternoon. Brill.....!!!
Thats a cracking advert for how not to use your tools. I'll put my bead on and tw@t it plumb with my level. Next they'll be wondering why the fooookin level is pissssed.
Because if you ran the mixer in reverse with the resistance from the material it would unscrew the paddle from the mixer. They turn against the thread normally.
Ha ha, I've been working on a revolutionary new plastering tool that's a cross between a trowel and a hawk. Its nearly finished now, just need to come up with a name for it. . . . Any ideas. . . . .?
I've got both mate, the negative one is about as much use as a handbrake on a canoe for render. Only use the positive for render mate. If you get one you should notice a difference.
Rendered plenty with sand and cement, weak mixes and lime in. Never had any issues and visit some of the houses i've done fairly regular and they still look cock on a few years after.
Just for a change i thought i'd do a quick post about some decent service, its all to easy sometimes to let everyone know when something is shite.
I ordered a Nela s*p*r*lex from Ryan and it came but there was a slight issue with it. I got in touch with them and the issue was sorted quickly and...
