i have not yet used or saw this one coat plaster bein used yet. my question is can it be applied and feathered with a featheredge then left and troweld up as normal? or is it too much like a finish plaster to feather???

hey danny chill out man!! you took a hell of a lot on there!! in fact too much in my opinion.. keep ur obvious talents within reason... the reason it was draggin or wat i see as liftin the finish off? is because you were in between too much plasterin. the plaster that was draggin was not gettin...
i;d never seen or heard of them sponge floats till i saw the plasterers on diy sos.. bit sad soundin i know! but not a bad programme and if you watch close enough you can pick up some good tips off it and there fine plasterers.. i wondered wat the hell he was doin when i saw him rubbin up finish...

wats the main purpose of lime in a render mix?? is it just for suction or is it for workability as well??? ive never used lime except at college a long long time ago and it was just used then to re-plce cement so it could be knocked off and used again and again etc...
wat i would do here is float up level to the existing wall with bonding wait till it starts to go off then i would get my plastic float wet that up then where the new plaster meets the old just press down slightly and run the float over the whole new area workin away from the old existing...

i have a queery thats doin my head in!!! is it possible these days to dry-line or dot and dab a bathroom??? that is not going to be tiled? or do you still have to float it with sand and cement or bonding like im sure you still do??? thanks for any replies to this... im in dispute with someone...
when you buy a new trowel use it on rendering as this is the best way to break em in, however ive just bin lookin at a tips site which says you can break em in with an oil stone and a file for the corners and some sand-paper which i always use anyway... ;)
im rarin to go now! bought me a van today a renault traffic 1999 bin used as a camper van, well tidy, shame im gonna s**t it up now with plaster lol.. gettin an ad in the local paper and a sign on the van so hopefuly all systems go will let u all know!
stick with pva u wont go wrong. as for the crackin sometimes customers can get bak to you in a cpl of wks time to say ur walls have cracked! ok wat happens with plaster is it is expandable! u get people who;s houses are at a constant temperature and others who;s houses are red hot in the day and...
pricing is a personal thing the thing to think abt is will it lead to more work? or is it a one off? if its a one off charge top drawer if it cld lead to more work ie word of mouth maybe go a bit lower> but as danny knows i charge way too low anyway. lol ;)

as for the numbness, ive found im gettin cramps in me hand!!! you lower your thumb past a certain point after a days plastering and it just cramps up and bends round on its own!!! awful feelin! i have to grab it and bend it back!!!! :-/
personaly i like my mix quiet stiff, however i reckon a stiffer mix is ok for smaller areas (cuts down the waitin around time to trowel up) and weaker mixes better for larger areas as it spreads further quicker! i worked for an ass of a labourer for 5 yrs and if the mix was too wet as it normaly...
