never ever do freehand it will look like its been cut "free hand" the best tried and tested way is with battens we have done loads of it in London and else where, for the Civil service/ Government, grade one listed jobs

sorry i mis read your post ....i only float the wall if the whole wall is tiled , there is no need to set, ....the tiler is perfectly happy and so am i as it saves me time
i still feel young john , most of the blokes i grew up with and worked with are retired or worse !!!
