The plasterer said he could skim over it (prob using the pink stuff) . He says the ceiling is very sound. there are some cracks but they can be filled.
This ceiling had distemper on it which has had a scrub or 3.
As grade 2 listed building i don't think pink gypsum skim is appropriate...
I really couldn't comment reliably about that.
What I do know is that where I have chipped a bit hard and penetrated the white layer, the white stuff has been friable in places.
A plasterer recommended that i skim over the ceiling. He said he would rough it up first with a stanley knife to penetrate below to get a good key
