    tackers wanted asap

Don't get me wrong, its good money overall, but plot for plot its s**t, that's what I mean by its high volume low margin, which means that no matter what people may think there isn't the margin on the houses to pay £3 p/m2 for tacking up here in the northwest....people on here don't...

    tackers wanted asap

I am a contractor myself and to think that contractors control the prices paid is a sign of naivety, think Tesco and the farmers who are always on the news complaining that they are being forced to supply their products at marginally above cost price while the supermarkets make all the profit...

    tackers wanted asap

A lot of people on here don't understand the industry and the difference in rates up and down the country and the fact that the further north you go generally the lower the rates paid are but the fact is a decent boarder should be doing 35 boards a day at 1.90 that's 950 quid a week on 3 quid...

    Tape and joint

I work for persimmon and one very large plastering contractor has convinced them to tape and joint . It's not going well from what I can gather I can't see it taking off. Not the right finish for domestic houses in my opinion.

Please can you help with meterage rate?

Maybe someone should post one of them sticky thingy ma bobs explaining that rates are not discussed on the forum but giving this very simple pricing formula for newbs .... Take the best educated guess you can as to what you think you should charge for boarding, dabbing, skimming , floating etc...
  15. J

    decent firms/contractors

Around the north west area the average price for new build is about £2.40 skimming similar for dabbing and boarding is about £1.80 - £2.00 per square meter. of course, you Southerners get your £3-£4 a meter for skimming but then you go and pay £5 for a pint and £1million for a terraced house...

    Please help... Monocouche...

Well, I reckon its a brick layer you'd need, but listen, i'm not having a go at those who would do all the other associated jobs but I don't or didn't do them as I don't really do domestic renders anymore. if you are capable and willing then great crack on.

    Please help... Monocouche...

In a word, yes, that's exactly what I do. I inform the customer and get them to get a professional to replace the lintel or fix/replace soffits Etc I will help put them in touch with someone If they can't find their own trades but I'm not going to bodge it myself. In my opinion that is leaving...

    Lots of Questions

Nice to see a fellow pie eater on the forum.. a mate of mine did this a few years ago his brother and dad kept telling him to get me in but he ploughed on by himself . To cut a long story short it took him months to board and dab it and he paid more in mortgage payments that the labour would...

    Please help... Monocouche...

I don't replace copings, mainly because i'm a plasterer/renderer not a jack of all trades, if the drip isn't substantial enough I inform the customer that they will need replacing and what the consequence will be if they don't, if they tell me to proceed without replacing them then its not my...

    Wickes accelerator mixing ratio

Gonna use this stuff tomorrow for the first time, i'm hand balling so going to ad it to each mix as I go, does anyone know how much to add to a mix per bag of render? Or how much to say 20-25 litres of water as I usually mix in tubs that can hold 4 or 5 bags at a time when handballing. Cheers.

    R/S question

I recently switched from a 240v ritmo to a 3 phase machine and I've bee using a d-63 R/S. I have a few jobs which are quite bitty but big enough to want to spray them still and i'm missing the speed function of the ritmo. the question I have is can I use a different R/S to slow down the...

    K-rend e-grade blockages

    K-rend e-grade blockages

i'm using the utiform D6_3 (Not a twister) but the gear didn't block the R/S it was just in that one pipe. as for the setting up (point number 3) that is exactly how I set it up. I don't have a pressure gage on it at the minute, which I realise is flying blind i'll have to get one. I've been...

    K-rend e-grade blockages

Is anyone spraying e-grade regularly ? I don't use it much I prefer weber or parex for spraying but I've got a few jobs on where the customer is adamant they want k-rend. I've used it twice last week and I have had a blockage in the pipe both times after stopping spraying for five to ten minutes...

    Cheque!

Do many of your clients take up the offer to pay by card? I have been thinking about offering it for a couple of years but not sure if it is really something many people would want to use.

    Retire

when I was younger I smashed the house bashing on site and earned a lot of money, I was young so blew a lot of money too but invested enough to take care of my future, I know I won't have to be on the tools when i'm 50-60 years old so now i'm happy ticking over. I enjoy rendering and I even if I...

i'm 33 and i really can't be arsed with plastering these days if i take on plastering i subby it straight back out, i don't make much on it but my hearts not in it to do it myself, i don't mind rendering but the hand balling is hard work hence why i bought a machine.

    scratch up the next day

I've got a client I subby work off and hes pecking my head to spray some webber on tomorrow afternoon and rub it the next day because there a are a fair few beds still to go on in the morning but he needs the job doing, its only about 25-30 sq/m but it sounds like my idea of hell, I mean it has...

Creame of tarter my best friend big gauges more ££££

Tarter works fine I used to keep a tub in my bag when I was house bashing In case I got some bad bags or the water on site was a bit dirty and making the gear go off. About a lid or a palm full per bag mixed does the trick.

Found what could be a bargain on ebay in the form of a Genset Genplus 14kva Genny for 700 notes. Learning the importance of wearing dust masks the hard way

never felt any effects from using mono or any other plasterers etc but I have thought to myself on a few occasions that we may well find out that this new (ish) render we are using has serious long term effects on our lungs, everyone thought asbestos was safe back in the day, only found out too...

Learning the importance of wearing dust masks the hard way

Did a bit of mono yesterday and it was a bit windy in the alleyway where the gable was so I had quite a bit of rub off and spilt render etc blowing around me all day getting in my eyes and obviously being breathed in, as many of us do I just got on with it. Finished the job, had no feelings of...

    Plasterers needed sheffield

its not that simple, you can't just set up your own firm and dictate "your rates" your rates will be dictated to you by competition from other firms during tendering. if all firms held out at a reasonable minimum price threshold the house builders would have no choice but to pay a higher price...
