Yea I see your point windy but the course he is on about is only basically to board and skim its not too hard to pick up...but yes if you have £400 notes to throw away why not personally I think that stuff isn't to hard to pick up if you spend some time teaching yourself then pay money for more...
You don't need a course to learn that seriously find a wall anywhere like a garage or spare room wall and put up some damaged plasterboard I was picking it up like £3 a damaged sheet and just practise fixing the board different ways dot dab battoning isn't rocket science then start mixing gear...
Only thing I can think is maybe air bubbles that have popped maybe over trowled also not the most experienced plaster but there probs my first guesses :)
Knaufe day let me read the thread :) I may do if I can make it not been to anything like that before could be interesting didn't no if it was open to anyone?
Yea i understand mate :) I managed to rescue it but with great difficulty and some scraping...I hope to get to tag along with some plasterers on weekends but as of yet not had many offers so I just skim at work as normal my finish isn't bad I don't think but things like this deffo worry the hell...
Yea I don't do bad with pva but just wondering if was worth the money I'm always up for tips ie I always wonder how many trowels you do to make it go like glass I tend to do about 4 trowels in total all silly questions but as I'm mainly on council work you can imagine other plasterers don't...
I see thanks people do you get a better finish with WBA? Bond it etc? I see the price of it is a lot more but defiantly worth a try if it does (sorry probably a dumb question)
I may of done it was the external wall it's cold gear wasn't going off to quick maybe I was to eager or there was residue maybe I not sure I've only been skimming about 8 months and was abit unsure what caused it
I pva the wall then skimmed it and it went like cellulite was odd first time I've seen it customer had stripped the wall paper I pvad and skimmed as usual just this one part went like it...soo do I now just reskim that wall? I guess from now on if its had wallpaper on I should sugar soap it? Thanks
HI
i plastered a room today on one wall where there was wallpaper that i stripped off then pva twice it went like cellulite is this just residue off the wallpaper paste?
Thanks
Cassie I see your point to be honest just to get them to turn up now would be smooth enough today a gas man connected the hob...where the other guys went is a mystery
Haha as above not a clue unfortunately I was at work so didn't get to give any input but believe me it's shoddy it's a small kitchen didn't have time to adjust doors draws floor **** no doors or door frames yet mmm basically they fit 8 units (pre assembled) and 2 lengths of worktop in 7 hours lol
Where do you people find these people I can skim reasonably well in 8 months taught myself my finish is near same as plasterers I've seen I can board a bathroom out no problem set beads if you ask me should just make them do it and I'm sure a keen interest helps
Battoned don't worry I soon pointed that out but seen as they didn't self level the floor all units are pissed and from far left to far right there is about a 15mm height difference so one side is packed out with skirting I'm not happy
Yea I work for council so new they would strip it or so I thought!!! But yea after I moaned I got it over boarded and then skimmed apparently they couldn't get the lining paper off but I no it was a lie on labourers part just laziness but all sorted more or less now I latex me floor now as they...
No offence taken i work for council i have 2 children and all I can say is I have 90 odd year old grandparents I see same as you loads of lazy people getting new bathrooms I have lived with a kitchen I ripped out of another house when I was labouring for the last 6 years so I sleep quite well at...
I'm at work but apparently they used thistle bond it...the Forman of another job popped in and said these walls aren't concrete are they and then walked off said to phone the office and tell them what he said as usual very helpful!
I'm not sure who is at fault like you say but shouldn't be my problem should it? I am due a new kitchen not new poor work I understand though but why should I suffer?
I would of but I thought they would of done a reasonable job and with me at work 6 days st mo but now I'm tempted by the standard of these guys...I'm pretty sure it's not the stuff for wallpaper but could be wrong either way surely it's just better off!
Thanks people I will do this and I appreciate the advice as I'm self taught I just wasn't 1000% sure but will be taking your advice...I won't be aggressive just explain my points and hopefully they will rectify this...any you guys near essex?
I haven't employed them they are doing it through council (same one I work for but different firm) just frustrating they know I skim look at all the walls in my house lol but yea I think I will ask for it to be stripped and new plasterers I think
I can strip it yes If they don't I will just wanted to check before I have a word in the morning :) next question do I throw that set of plasterers off f
Not really I spent all day boarding and skimming today to get home to 3 units removed and floor tiles gunned up and walls painted In green c**p when I find it funny it's about £35 a tub now they got to strip it off and £5 pva would of been fine :) but yea I think I'm going to have to have a...
Well I work and pay my rent and waited like 5 years for a kitchen soo I guess I pay a lot for numpties but should I ask for it to all be stripped off to me I'd say its just going to bubble or crack within 6 months otherwise?
Well I currently work for the council doing bathroom refurbs and I never skim over lining paper wall paper etc soo I'm about to go into the office first thing in the morning and get these wallis out me kitchen I self taught me self to skim and I no it's not a good idea but I thought maybe I'm...
Hi
Got council people In doing my kitchen well they ripped it out then they have painted over my lining paper with this green gritty pva what is it? And I always thought lining paper etc should be stripped off? I wouldn't plaster over it personally so am I wrong?
thanks in advance
Well not exactly a spread to be fair I have self taught myself to skim hardly spread I don't know if I can render or do other things you guys can I know most of theory behind a lot by viewing on here asking spreads and builders and watching while they are doing it...unfortunately I tried too get...
Not talking tripe mate but take off 2 guys money the materials electricians costs plus other odds and ends bit of profit for the firm there really isn't as much as you think left but yh sounds ridiculous and great but really it does depend on size of bathrooms some take us 7 days smaller ones...
Well I'm on a day rate of £120 a day employed which isn't a bad crack but generally we subcontracting the bathrooms but price per bathroom is bout £3000-4000 supplying materials 2 guys 5 days a bathroom ish which isn't bad...why you ask?
Gold trowel seem to have best reviews from what I hear I was going to go with them but I started doing council work and just started boarding skimming bonding setting beads and that and over like 8months I'd say my finish isn't too bad compared to other plasterer of 10 years on the firm but I'd...
Hey everyone just thought I'd give you a update and let you know I'm now working refitting bathrooms for the council although not much chance to learn to learn plastering am going on a 15 day apc plastering course funded by my bosses wallet lol hope everyone is well
I'm on a job centre 4 week construction city and guild level 1 with site operative cscs card thrown in...tbh seems so easy just common sense can't see why it's even needed a 5 year old could get through it
I don't think it's age I'm 20 something as you put it and I've done just 3 jobs since I left school and on my last one experienced a bit of plastering which I found great...
so I become unemployed builder I worked for gone quiet estate agents I was doing property maintenance for couldn't pay...
