For god sake. Not used it on celcon blocks.....hence why I made this post in the first place you thick c**t.
I’ve never painted it...sorry I’ve never painted one coat render before. Sorry I don’t know everything about everything.
Now let me tongue your mums arsehole.
Sorry I didn’t pick up on the “ocr”
yes I can get the one coat render but I can only get it in one colour cheaply and I don’t want that colour. So I’m going sand and cement.
I’m just gonna try the 5-1 6-1-1 sand cement line. We will see what happens :)
I do appreciate the offer but I’ve built the whole thing myself, no help on any part of it, even lifting the catnic into place! so I want to finish it all myself.
I don’t want to do bagels render just in case it fails. Budgets budgets.
Just found that ratio on another forum so I’ll go with that to be honest. Does sound pretty weak but I’ll go with it. For the area size it’s worth risking it.
going to do a 4 - 1 sand and cement with waterproofer for the scratch. top coat with be 5-1-1 sand cement and lime. Don’t know Iime is old school now but I like how you still have movement in the mix once dry.
Once it’s rendered nobody will ever know :p
Cost about £950 to do the build including the roof and that will include the material for the render.
Once it’s rendered I’ll be happy with that.
I didn’t quite get what you meant.
It’s 2 celcon bricks, will create less KN on the sides of the building to help with the load on the lintel.
dotn worry, we’ve established many times the blockwork was being rendered so it didn’t need to be a masterpiece, just level and plumb.
go on certain...
M
It’s 2 celcon bricks. You can see them from the other side. Put them in down both sides as there’s a lintel across the front which the roofs weight sits on.
Cheers. I’m glad it’s not such the big issue I thought it would be. Well, don’t speak too soon of course. If it does suffer from cracking I’ll just get the tyrolean flicker out.
I read that before coming on here but I wanted someone to comment who’d actually done it. Just a few people on here saying they wouldn’t want to do it makes you second think...but I’m gonna do it anyway and we will see.
no not yet. I’m taking the upvc cladding off and replacing with a single upvc fascia board instead. Then I can render upto it will leave a nicer finish overall. Probably do it next week but I’ll post in here with the job done. Thanks for the good input.
well I’m not a builder, and yes they are easier to lay. Also better thermal qualities. Tbf there’s been a few solutions here about rendering celcons so I’m sure it’s not that big of a deal.
I used larger mortar joints and a wetter 5-1 mortar mix as advised by h+h. I know these blocks are prone to cracking though but the building has actually been like this for 2 years now. Only had one crack underneath the front windowsill whichI’m no surprised about as this wall is taking the load...
Yeh the blockwork isn’t great. I could have done better but I know it’s being rendered so just made sure it was level etc.
the cladding is having edging cap on the ends so you won’t see it. Get a piece and try and cut it long ways. The blockwork is being rendered....why does it matter if it...
Hi, thanks for a normal reply! Yeh unfortunately for me that’s what I thought I’d do before I thought about asking the question on here...should have stuck to my guns and trusted myself.
thanks again, really appreciate the answer.
If that wall fell down nothing would happen as it had no load bearing to the roof so what you’re saying doesn’t make any sense. Stick to skimming plasterboards.
Which bizarre reinforcement are you talking about? Galvanised straps being used for their purpose?
Over the years I’ve seen plenty of doorways blocked or bricked up without being tied in the way you suggest.
you answered my question about why would it fall down by saying because it’s a bodge...
The block work is being rendered....as long as it’s plumb and level it doesn’t matter what it looks like. Surely you’ve established this after me saying it 4 times. So with this finally getting into your brains....how would it fall down. Thanks
Ok, please explain how that extension could possibly fall down.
please answer as I want to see you embarrass yourself so please answer.
jusy before you answer let me explain. The wall on the photo is non load bearing, the brickwork is tied to the joists of the roof, the brickwork is strapped...
basic knowledge of rendering a wall? Scratch coat, top coat. There’s the basic knowledge.
2 people gave me advise.
I didn’t get defensive over the photo.....I made a point that nobody had any idea how to answer the question. That doesn’t mean I’m being defensive. That means nobody on here has...
Let’s be honest...nobody has a got a clue have they. Nobody can answer a simple question about rendering celcon blocks so any criticism to do with blockwork that’s being covered by render is going over my head. To be on a plastering forum and out of 30 people only 2 can provide an answer makes...
Yes it is. The blocks were being rendered so as long as it was level and plumb there’s no issue with the looks of it.
there was a window there and I changed it to a door l, hence the cut out in the cladding and blockwork. All I want to do now is render it and find out the best way forward. I’ll...
That sounds like when you ask a kid a question he doesn’t know so he says why should I tell you. I’ve contributed to this forum plenty of time’s over the last 6 years and never thought I needed paying for it. It was a simple question about what’s the best process.
very surprised by the immaturity.
Proper materials? Celcon blocks can be used externally and even for footings below dpc.
You could give me an answer but I think not people on this forum are very poor plasterers who only skim on new builds or self employed who can’t make it work. out of this whole post I’ve had about 2 decent...
i don’t know if I believe it anyway. If a question was asked on here and you were highly experienced you’d be happy to answer and show off your knowledge. Im going to slurry and dampen down before rendering as usual. This will create a good bond and should control suction.
I’ll upload a photo...
