I went back today to top off some render that was s&c over rib lath over tyveck over ply. There was a hair line crack down every rib in the scratch coat. I told the builder this would happen but they said crack on. I hope it doesn't come through the top coat but I'm not holding my breath
Didn't have any PVA on the van so I rolled neat SBR onto some celcons. Usually in this heat the celcons pull the hardwall in quick and its a bitch to skim but this held it back well. It was like floating over concrete blocks. Happy days
A contractor I do a bit of work for asked for a price to do some of this but I have never done it so I asked another spread I know who does this and he said £27.50 m2 labour only. I don't expect anyone to discuss their prices but for anyone who regularly does this is this a little high? Its...
@Geason. Hi Lynn I have a couple of blokes who have been issued red temporary cscs cards as they won't let you on site now by just obtaining a site operative card. I'm still concerned that they won't let them on a new job next week with these as they are not taking a nvq at the moment. Is the...
I speak with about 10 different people on a daily basis who say to me do you know what would be really good. If they invented magnetic plaster so walls could be magnetic and you could stick metal objects to the wall. I just lied.
This job is starting to kick off now and we done a mock up room and a plant room. Watered down some PVA 5-1 and rolled that on. It skimmed beautifully. No crazing or shelling off and it actually hung quite wet and we had to wait around bit in-between stages. I don't know if they have altered the...
Stick with the speedskim. Just get on it straight away for the flatten. Wetter the better. I bought a refina supaflex a couple of weeks ago and it's beautiful to trowel up with.
I priced a job yesterday and when I had worked out my price I chucked a few hundred on top. The customer said you're a little bit dear can you do anything with the price. So I knocked the few hundred off, he thinks he's got a bit of a deal as he's knocked me down a bit and I get the price I want...
I plastered a hallway and stairwell last weekend with the thickest artex I have ever seen all over the walls. When I was doing the stairwell I had a set of ladders with a scaffold board going across and I was half way through the first set and I thought why the **** am I doing this ****!
This made me laugh. Great analogy. I used my new speedskim for the first time this week and straight away I thought what a great bit of kit it is. I'm gonna buy a Nela supaflex as well now as I keep reading about them. Think I'm gonna need a bigger van soon
I curved the corners with a super fine sanding pad from B&Q's. Flattened off nicely with no lines. Yeah so far so good, well happy with them. Im actually looking forward to the ceilings I'm gonna be doing on wednesday.
Bought the 600 and 1200 set last week and today was the first time I put them into use. I have to say I am quite impressed. I was skimming in a loft conversion so there was lots of curves to sweep in and some tricky angles. I like the way the 1200 takes all the dog work out of the set...
I remember the Sto rep telling us how thick you could put it on in one coat for going over block work etc... But it would stay soft for days. And going over board work if the joints were tapered you would have to pre fill them. Same with beads. It would always need a bit of sanding here and...
if you're a sole trader don't bother with an accountant. Just do it yourself online. It's a piece of piss. All the boxes are there for you all you have to do is put the figures in. It will take you less than an hour and save you £250+. it will also tell you there and then how much of a return...
I done a couple of jobs with StoLevell In XL about 7 or 8 yrs ago. Biggest pile of cack going. Sto reckoned they was gonna take over the world with it. Haven't seen it since. Not surprised.
I've been debating for a few weeks about buying some speed skim blades. Mainly down to my elbow being knackered at 36yrs old and needing to make work a little easier where possible. And after looking at a few videos and reviews I'm gonna get some. I would be interested on any advice or tips...
I usually cut noggins that I wedge in real tight into the web of the steel. This gives me something to fix the board into. I'll over sail the board so I can fix a baton through it on the underside of the steel. Do this on both sides of the steel and then you can fix a board on the underside into...
Thanks for the replies. Looks like a no no then. I don't know why they specifically want multi. Maybe they think it's a bit more durable. I told the site agent today that if you're thinking of using multi you need to speak to fermacell first and see what they say as they probably won't guarantee...
Hi everyone
I am gonna be starting a job soon that will be using fermacell boards throughout. They want it skimmed with mult-finish instead of the fst. I was wondering has anyone skimmed over fermacell with multi and what preparation did they do to the board as I'm assuming its gonna need...
