    Dot and Dab

You should batton the wall with 3x2 and insulate with rockwool and then screw the plasterboards to it, fibretape the joints and if there are any gaps along the corners just fibretape them flat on the board. And then you skim over the lot or if you cant do that just joint em with filler.

    K-rend base over cement boards

Could anybody tell me the correct method to go over cement boards externally for a K-rend finish. Could you use hp12 meshed or would you need to use hpx meshed? And do you need to prep the cement board in any way before the base coat? Thanks for your advice.

Dave, do plenty jobs for family & friends for mates rates to build up confidence, Its good that you've got the qualifications but its practice and experience that you need to build up, its knowing what to do when things go wrong, learning by your mistakes, having the right tools for every...

    Sun shadows

The sun can show up a bump a tenth of a millimetre, anyone who can get a wall 100% with the sun directly to the side of it wants a medal.

    Plaster 3d Wall Panels

Has anybody used these 3d wall panels? I've been asked by a friend to have a go at putting these up on a small wall, I've not come across anybody who has used them, the place where he got them from said you use drywall adhesive to stick them to the wall with a notched trowel like a tile but I'm...

    Any ideas over scratch coat

Cheers Andy, part of me wants to say no I'll stick to s/c but I'd love to try and use the mono. Maybe I should learn how to use it first before I jump on a big gable.

    Any ideas over scratch coat

I'm doing a rendering job at the moment, just a gable. I've scratched it on with s/c and meshed it due to a few cracks in the brickwork, was planning on topping it out as soon as the weather changes but the customer keeps banging on about a house down the road which has been finished in krend or...

    Rendering solid wall

Thanks lads, Its quite a big job, 2 gables and maybe the front of the house, I'm not sure what the 18" walls are made of, its just what he's told me. You can see where the render has blown but none of it has actually fell off yet. That webber ocr I think will be too expensive for what he wants...

    Rendering solid wall

Thanks John, with it being a solid wall I wasn't sure of the mix ratio, everyone has a different method/ratio. Some say put more cement in and others say more sand in, some say don't leave it too long before you top it out because it wont bond to the scratch coat if its got waterproofer in it...

    Rendering solid wall

Hi, I've looked at a job today and basically the guy has an old house with 18" solid walls, in the last ten years he's had it rendered twice (externally) and both times its blown. He wants it rendered again with s/c (he doesn't like mono). I wondered if anyone would suggest the appropriate...

    Have i been taught right?

I usually put the first coat on then flatten it then mix a small bucket for second coat then two flattens then one trowel then a dry trowel, that's how I was taught and it works for me. Each to there own I suppose.

    old wooden corner beads

You should take them out really but sometimes it can pull the plaster off the side of the chimney breast and when you tell the customer its going to cost more money they don't always like it!! I've often scrimmed it first then put bead on then scrimmed the bead. Never had a problem

    Thistle multi finish or carlite???

Not seen carlite finish for years myself, (martinMc) yes it was great for using on sand and cement, took ages to go off but you could put double the area on and it would trowel up lovely.

Pins and needles in my hands.

A mate of mine got the dreaded pins and needles in his left hand, after trying to work out the cause of it, turns out that the handle on his HANDBOARD lol was too thin, he put a wider handle on it and he doesnt get it as often now. Try that :)
