    Marmox waterproof boards 20mm

Ah, it would be a good place to be if I liked real ale. Alas, I'm more of a cider drinking country bumpkin, so moving down south should suit me well! :) Btw, boards are now listed on ebay if anyone is interested in them.

    Marmox waterproof boards 20mm

Forgot to mention boards are located at Burton on Trent, near Derby, although pick up could be arranged from either Banbury or the Wirral.

any plasterers in or around banbury, oxfordshire?

Heya, sorry all for the slow reply. Am in the process of moving house from the midlands atm, so am tripping over my own feet and have very limited internet access until Sky pull their finger out! Yes scissors I'm happy to travel to any of the nearby cities if it means the chance of gaining...

any plasterers in or around banbury, oxfordshire?

Hiya, I was just wondering if there's anyone in or around the banbury area who is looking to take on a trainee plasterer? I've been going it alone for a couple of months now and taking on any small jobs, but I don't want to take on anything bigger until I have the confidence to get it spot on...

Trainee/labourer/apprentice in Burton on Trent/Derby, can travel to surrounding areas

Hiya, I'm coming to the end of my level 2 diploma now, and whilst it's given me a good intro to the trade and the confidence in using a trowel it obviously hasn't given me much in the way of 'real' on-the-job experience. I am annoying all the local plasterers by asking for work, but all either...

    Storing trowels?

Hmm, yeah that is the issue with buying pink things. Maybe I'll just get a bog standard white one with pink lettering so it isn't quite so in ya face.
  13. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Hi All....

    Welcome Duncan :)
  14. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Storing trowels?

Hah, I would love to get a van. But I'm not at the stage where I can afford one yet. Plus can't decide on whether to get a pink one or not! :rolleyes) That is a pretty sweet case though, although I'm not sure I want to look like an assassin whilst walking about with two briefcases!
  15. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Storing trowels?

I was just wondering how everyone stores their trowels in a way that they don't get trashed when traveling around? I know some just rest them on the edges of buckets inside vans, but as I don't have a van and only carry a toolbag around this isn't very practical. I'm hoping that maybe there...

Bags of plaster going down in size

Well that's a bit crap. I think it's just some weak and feeble boys blaming us women, when in fact it's them that need the weight dropping!

Trainee looking for work in Burton-upon-Trent and surrounding areas.

Hi there, I am currently in the process of pestering local plasterers for some experience, however up until now I haven’t had much luck. Am going to keep trying, but thought I’d try on here too. If anyone has any jobs going where they need a bit of extra help in and around the...

straw bale shed - clay render?

Thanks for the advice so far guys. Although I don't think I have to fear the big bad wolf, as if the first little pig had a baling machine, and wasn't such a skiver, he'd have been perfectly safe. Yeah, so far I've read that you can use a clay based render providing you give it several coats...

straw bale shed - clay render?

Hi all, Just wondering whether anyone around here has any experience with applying clay type renders and plaster to straw bales? Am thinking of possibly building a straw bale shed with a green roof at the bottom of my garden early next year. However, have no idea about clay thus far. Have...

    Howdy :)

Haha, I wouldn't say I'm exactly noisy on here. But yeah I guess it takes me a while to get to know people and not worry about insulting them. It's the first time I've really been in that kind of environment, so I'm just finding my feet atm. Don't worry, your times will come. :P

    Looking to gain experience, Derby

Well at least it's something fairly simple, and shouldn't take long. I thought he was on about us designing the front of a house a few weeks ago, but I'm guessing he forgot about that.

    Looking to gain experience, Derby

Ah OK, not too bad then. I think Chris said that he'd be going through a fair bit of that in his sessions anyway, so hopefully I'll catch up. I'm assuming we didn't get any 'homework' for over the half term?
  28. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Looking to gain experience, Derby

Yeah, I had to fill out a different portfolio to you, but that only took like 20 mins, and then was told I could head off home early if I wanted, but decided to have another bash at rendering to make the most of my time there. Then about half way through Chris tells me you're all doing new...

Ooh you're like sherlock holmes lol. Yeah I'm sure there'll be a few more pop up soon. I bet there's probably a few already lurking. I would have never realised it was you if you didn't write Chameleon in the OP.

    Looking to gain experience, Derby

Hah, no it isn't as difficult as I thought it'd be. But for someone that's never dabbled in it before I just want to make sure I get everything right. I don't wanna be another cowboy out there, have had enough of them working on my houses in the past :RpS_sneaky:

    Looking to gain experience, Derby

Thanks Spread. And yeah Spunky maybe not being free all the time will be a hinderance, but we've had such a good intro into plastering and learnt so much on this course in our few weeks of being there that personally I don't want to give it up. I think over the next 30 weeks or so my knowledge...

which is best trowel carbon or stainless steel

I'm quite new to this, so am probably not the best person to say. But I was told to get a golden stainless steel Marshalltown trowel. As they're high quality and last for yonks...providing no-one else likes it better than you and whips it.

    need help patching a wall

Right, just wanted to double check I'm going to be doing the right thing before I start. I've been asked to repair some hairline cracks and blown plaster. So I assume I remove any loose plaster, and then depending on the thickness of the existing surrounding plaster and the size of the patch...

Pah! So why does it matter? Is it best to call it a handboard then? I chose hawk cause it's quicker to write on my equipment list for the stores.
  42. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Howdy :)

So go on, why does it matter whether you call it an handboard or hawk then? Or are you just being picky?
  43. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Howdy :)

...oh dear. You know what, I think I'll pass on the tea, biscuits, muffins etc. Have a stack of croissants to get through before my fry up at lunch, and don't want to get too fat. Plus think it's safer, as don't want to bump into Pippa lurking behind a bush with a spread or two. :RpS_scared:
  44. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Howdy :)

Ah the head honcho eh, nice to meet you. So are you elected or self appointed? :P Hah, next you'll be wanting a photo with today's newspaper in it. I just pinched myself and I definitely think I'm real, so that's all you're getting for now. Hmm, I've heard about your allotment, and it sounds...

Tsk, men eh! This is why there needs to be more females in plastering!
  46. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Howdy :)

Thanks for the welcome Warrior! Don't worry, people will get bored of me very quickly once they realise I'm not a Pippa. Just need a new token female to come along and then I can blend into the background. :)

Shhhh, I don't wanna know lol! I stopped reading the threads after a while, as it was clear what she was after. Does she still frequent the site looking for a new bit of man meat from all you studs then? :RpS_tongue:
  48. FleaFlyFloFlum

    Howdy :)

Good stuff! And nice to meet you Mr Nisus/Nailswater. :RpS_biggrin: Unfortunately I only have one picture as have only been on my course a couple of weeks, and that's of my first practice external rendering on a small wall which isn't even floated up nice. :-( Will hopefully get a few more...
