I've been using 4 water 1 PVA
I'll try a 6:1 then.
With the PVA that's peeling now is it alright to go over that with the weak PVA
Or will any peeling ruin the finish?
Finally, how many coats of weak is appropriate?
Thanks
PVA'd a wall today
And upon checking if it had gone tacky it peeled straight back off wherever touched.
The wall was skimmed about a week ago
So would I be right in thinking I've gone on the wall too soon
And that the recent skim hasn't dried out completely?
Also if that's the case...
£7 a bag around here
£7.80 a 8x4 board (12.5mm) too.
( welsh valleys )
takes the biscuit, but travel 15mins to b&q and looking around £5.00 a bag and same for a sheet.
beads?! he likely wouldnt have even know what you were on about mate.
to give you an idea of how dull he was (according to next door) he bought windows that have the top 3rd open out..
nothing wrong with that you may say.
he then put them in sideways to have a window that opens on the side...
yeah its pretty shallow
, every house in the row built the same extensions.
5 houses in row
1st house, owned by a plumber
2nd a sparky
3rd a mechanic
4th a chippy.
mine.. was owned by a world bodger.
he built the extension half cut and ballsed it up so bad it had to be knocked down.. not...
Bare with me I'll take a snap of the flashing.
It's 5hi*e.
We have a council grant to replace the flashing and re render
But they wanna use their own guys.. Can't choose my own
a small reveal on the 1st floor is rough as rough can be.
Ive also noticed the paint flakes off very easily and the plaster has blown.
all in a horizontal strip.
on the external side of that horizontal strip is the roof line of an extension..
so a couple questions:
1. I suspect the roof has...
cheers pal!
anxious to get going
so Today I built a box to hide a soil pipe, boarded up and beaded some external corners, never done any external corners or even fit skim beads so was quite fun to try out.
try call some more spreads next Wednesday, didnt call tonight as its a Friday and nobody...
unfortunately I have to start level 1 and progress through the levels.
in fact they normally have an "introduction to plastering and rendering & fibrous" before you can apply to level 1.
Cheers mate.
Yeah need to get on board with somebody asap.
Hopefully if a spread knows starting/started college it will put them at ease.
Been doing small walls in my own house
And have a stud wall set up in my garage
Which I PVA over and reskim a few times then tear down and re sheet etc
Id agree with that Coop,
mind you, Im not sure on how it all works myself, you have any experience with it?
I have a suspicion its a ton of paperwork on the employers end..
I'll be giving a few spreads a call tonight , see how that pans out
if you can give me any info on the CITB stuff I can...
I could do Marc, but you tend to regret what you don't do rather than what you do.
I went to college from school as a chippy
And like a twut packed it in to focus on being a "lad"
That's a regret.. No way is it happening twice lol
Its hard work shifting large deliveries I'll give you that lol
But I didn't want an easy walk in the park.
Would be all to easy to f*** it all off and live on the dole.
Im 22 mate, course didnt cost anything
would have been a full college course over 3 years, with the later half split between college and site work.
I have two options available:
1. private course - 6 weeks at like £1500
2. tag along with a plasterer for free/low pay as long as they allow me...
to be honest if you take a look at a thread I put up before, Im not looking for much payment, even if its simply help with travel :RpS_thumbup:
in all honesty learning the trade is my "payment"
If im sounding desperate to get a foot in the door, thats because I am
but I appreciate not...
Chizam.. Need a hand pal?
Dead around these parts.. In fact nearly all the tradesmen I've hired have been from up your way as there's nobody around here who ain't a jack of all .sadly..
No mate. bloody college decided not to run the course :RpS_cursing:
back to square one on that front. typical as that was the only college within around 50 mile radius even offering plastering at all!
ill probably hound the local plasterers again as that truly is the only way into the trade now.
Stuy
nice to know merthyr are good then!
no transport of my own at the moment, learning ( I have the mrs as a driver - feel a right sap at the moment lol )
which kind of limits me getting on board with someone unless they're
a) Local-ish
b) are able to pick up/off
, though at the moment...
best of luck George :RpS_thumbup:
I know, bloomin typical though..
to be honest mate the trade around here is zero, a few cowboys and 1 or 2 big boys who have the majority of the jobs ( including when I have work going on )
bloody infuriating when the cowboys turned around and said to my...
update:
 just been informed
"due to high demand, construction courses are full this year"
despite what I was told last week.
never mind eh, I replied asking when the next available course will start, even if it is next september.
absolutely overwhelming support!
will update as soon as I have details of the course regarding awarding body and start dates
as im still awaiting a reply.
also, its at Merthyr Tydfil college in South Wales.
Thanks again guys.
Thanks Apprentice, Ill give a ring Today and check.
When I spoke to the college they said they may take on this month to fill spaces. so hopefully ill just be playing catch up for a while.. if not, im not sure :(
but again, Ill check the details Today and post back!
I cant find that info anywhere on the college descriptions :(
I thought that is what he meant but wanted to double check
other than the college themselves, is there a way of checking if its C&G or someone else?
could you explain that bit mate? bit confused.
thanks a lot for all regarding the outline of the 1st year.
I am hugely nervous but anxious to start
( I started carpentry straight after school so am versed with the striped paint and a long weights :P but dropped out to be a "lad" like a fool )
I very much appreciate the support!
Regarding a course, I did actually consider it!
and then sat back one night and thought at the end of the day, the guys ill be working alongside will likely have the same view of courses as the majority on here do:
waste of time and money.
Besides which I...
getting ready to start a three year plastering & rendering course full time at college in a couple weeks.
has anyone here gone down this route over the past few years with some tips before I begin?
especially in regards to getting on board with somebody alongside college to attain my NVQ 2 & 3...
Back again Folks
sadly despite me enquiring and having a decent chat about it with the bloke
the offer never materialised, so that was a bit disheartening
Been hectic this year with a child!
but I am still keen to get into plastering
tried a few local via the yellow pages, nothing available...
cheers Gooner,
looking forward to making a start in January.
wage paid too, which is an excellent start I think.
once Im on the path - I'll hopefully work with a few spreads
and as you say, learn multiple techniques!
once again though, very keen to learn so If somebody reads this in future...
Whilst I have work on going.
We are in the last couple days.
Martin and Ieaun..(two I have working for me )
Have been great. And have always used those for jobs i have.
However I have asked..and they havent needed anything
Ive been allowed to watch and revieved tips etc but nothing hands on...
