I guess the whole point of producing plaster that has a prescribed set time is if there's problems you can blame the manufacturer, when we throw cement in we are taking the law into our own hands, all come backs on us

There's no recycled board in plaster

You want to make sure your fixing in to the joists so you need a screw which will go the rough the board, Insulation, Plywood and then penetrate 25mm in to the joists, so you're looking at least a 100mm screw

The original spec was a German one coat plaster so I've gone with Universal OneCoat plaster from BG, the block work is horrendous in one run of 5m in one panel was 25mm out! Blocks a bit dry but with a bit of water I was away with it, couldn't belive what a good finish you could get with onecoat

Suction is easily controlled with water so I'm Not bothering with a pva, grit or gyprime

I must of learnt something as I've been paid by both CG and CSkills to write and help produce plastering qualifications, maybe you couls do with some top up training given your age I know a couple of good 3 day courses you can go on

The White spots are probably one of two things, either bits of polymer or Lime that haven't been mixed through properly during production

Thats the point of putting them in plastic bags, isn't it, i know a few merchants who store their plaster in, lets say not so weather tight sheds, the drop in temp wouldn't affect the plaster, cold temps only affect mixed plaster because of ice crystals forming in the water due to low temps...

i'm not defending BG here as i've suffered with the problems of ripping bags taking them off the pallets but what we all have to bear in mind that BG have what 4 plants?? that will need to upgrade their machines to make multi etc in plastic bags, factor into that while the new machines are...

That's because they don't skim plasterboard, they tape and fill either by hand or machine (Ames taping) the biggest drywall company is USG. Check out their website.

Your right Malc, Thistle Unifinish isn't an undercoat, But Universal One Coat is an undercoat, which is what I was talking about, well technically it's alone coat plaster

Give the existing hardwall a knock in a few places to check for delamination, then if solid seal the hardwall with PVA and recoat as necessary depending on the thickness you maybe need to build the hard wall up in coats (8mm) to a maximum of 25mm. If it's gonna have to go thicker to level wall...

The only undercoat you should be sponging is Uni-one coat.

Should nt need to sponge a backing coat, if you rule it off flat and give it a key at the right time with a devil float, why add a extra process and moisture??? as far as your FACT goes why sponge your finish coat, lay it on in two coats flat, straighten up, and a final polish with minimal water...

Is it just me or are people who use sponges on their finish coat plasters the roughest of the rough and give us genuine time served, quality crafts men a bad name? to me it just smacks of bad practice and low skill levels.

Surely the PVA goes further than one room as yo water it down, I apy £5 for 10 litres of PVA and it last ages by the time you water it down according to the manufacturers recommendations.

Ill answer this, I'm the bonding expert, should of put it on in two thinner coats to take it up to 15mm. Let is set between coats and scratch. No probs, remember if in doubt bonding it out!
