    Thistle Bond 60

I guess the whole point of producing plaster that has a prescribed set time is if there's problems you can blame the manufacturer, when we throw cement in we are taking the law into our own hands, all come backs on us
  8. S

    Thistle Bond 60

Already do a longer set, if you hand apply spray finish it has 2.5/3hr set on it

    Very long drywall screws!!!

You want to make sure your fixing in to the joists so you need a screw which will go the rough the board, Insulation, Plywood and then penetrate 25mm in to the joists, so you're looking at least a 100mm screw

Which plaster should be used on these blocks

The original spec was a German one coat plaster so I've gone with Universal OneCoat plaster from BG, the block work is horrendous in one run of 5m in one panel was 25mm out! Blocks a bit dry but with a bit of water I was away with it, couldn't belive what a good finish you could get with onecoat
  13. S

Which plaster should be used on these blocks

Suction is easily controlled with water so I'm Not bothering with a pva, grit or gyprime

Which plaster should be used on these blocks

    Uni and bg

I'm friends with someone in the labs at one of the plants and I asked him regards the white spots and he confirmed that it is the lime, they sometimes get problems with the lime not being distributed or mixed through the 3.5 ton batch properly and so even though each bag is supposed to contain...

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

What's someone's qualifications got to do with it??? How many times since you qualified have you been reassessed? I passed my NVQ 20 years in March next year and I've not had my work checked since by someone else? Under this scheme they said they asses u every 3 years. Some of the best...

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

So Sounds dead Mickey Mouse - ran by the leading manufacturer, they require customer references, come out to assess you, offer you support and training and then they have the cheek and audacity to offer you this for free for the first year, yeah your right it's a bloody cheek and a proper dodgy...

  26. S

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

Never going to change the minds of people who look at everything with suspicion and a sense of doubt and scepticism, for years we've all wanted BG to have a recognised scheme - they do it and people criticise them and say there doing it for the money etc, maybe if people are that unhappy with...

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

How much? £250 per person to join, how much do you think the assessor will get paid, how much to maintain and run the system? Say 10,000 members join that's £2,500,000 a year no offence that would be pocket change for a company like BG who are part of a company who have a income of £40 billion...

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

Won't be unlimited entry, no point, they will only want a small number nationally then close it to new entries
  29. S

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

Well if you need leads for work then your obviously not very good and probably not the right plasterers for this scheme, I never have to go looking for work as I have plenty and plenty of repeat work but I will be joining the scheme, if I pass the assessment, to get the chance to be seen as...

    Shite finish bags

Thats the point of putting them in plastic bags, isn't it, i know a few merchants who store their plaster in, lets say not so weather tight sheds, the drop in temp wouldn't affect the plaster, cold temps only affect mixed plaster because of ice crystals forming in the water due to low temps...

    Shite finish bags

i'm not defending BG here as i've suffered with the problems of ripping bags taking them off the pallets but what we all have to bear in mind that BG have what 4 plants?? that will need to upgrade their machines to make multi etc in plastic bags, factor into that while the new machines are...

    Re floating

Give the existing hardwall a knock in a few places to check for delamination, then if solid seal the hardwall with PVA and recoat as necessary depending on the thickness you maybe need to build the hard wall up in coats (8mm) to a maximum of 25mm. If it's gonna have to go thicker to level wall...

  39. S

    Sponge or not to Sponge

Should nt need to sponge a backing coat, if you rule it off flat and give it a key at the right time with a devil float, why add a extra process and moisture??? as far as your FACT goes why sponge your finish coat, lay it on in two coats flat, straighten up, and a final polish with minimal water...

    Sponge or not to Sponge

Is it just me or are people who use sponges on their finish coat plasters the roughest of the rough and give us genuine time served, quality crafts men a bad name? to me it just smacks of bad practice and low skill levels.

Surely the PVA goes further than one room as yo water it down, I apy £5 for 10 litres of PVA and it last ages by the time you water it down according to the manufacturers recommendations.
