Fair enough. Don't ask for opinions on a forum if you've already made up your mind

    Weber render repair

If the contractor thinks that it won't be noticeable then they know more than you on the matter and you don't have a leg to stand on. With regards to having to clean 2 walls more than the other 2, basically they're just making 2 sides of your house better at no expense to you. If you want the...

    Weber render repair

But insurance companies do care what it costs. You can't choose your contractor if the price is obscene, the insurance company haws every right to tell you no and ask for other quotes. Even painting 4 sides I would say 6k is excessive. It's not exactly a tough fix. Although if the contractor...

    Weber render repair

Well your post said is it unreasonable. Personally if I was your insurer and you sent that photo and said quote is 6k then I'd say yes it's unreasonable. Theres a post on there the other day someone got quoted 7k to completely render their house in lime render. Your looking almost the same...

    Weber render repair

Personally I think 6k for that is alot, insurance quote or not. Get another quote or 2, get the insurance payout and keep the money.

Tax year coming to a end

No grey area, it says when you claim them they're taxable income. You could say you forgot to include them I suppose, I can't see anything bad happening with the grants other than owing them back. I can't see how anyone could of claimed every grant and be down on previous year, unless as...

Tax year coming to a end

Add in the grants and we've all earn far too much. Tempted to buy a few grand laptop tomorrow. Don't really need much else though. Any idea what you can spunk some money on and it now be a complete waste?

    Medi flex v s*p*r*lex

Mt to put on, flatten, Mt for second coat, flatten. Then medi flex. I brush the edges down but that's it. I always used to lash water on and chase the water along the wall, but don't think I could do that now. Multi seems streaky now whenever water touches it

Please help me from the torture of painting pebbledash

How would doing all of that be quicker than just painting it though? It's like someone who's never plastered, not wanting to paint an artex ceiling as it'll take more effort than a flat one. So go and buy all the tools and research how to skim it to make the painting easier. Makes no sense
  15. N

    Plaster patch over lathe ceiling

The rest is never solid. Accident waiting to happen. Just overboard and skim
  16. N

    Thoughts please

You sure the rest is OK? It's unlikely the same people who produced that on one wall could have randomly done a good job on the rest tbh. Put a straight edge on the wall and see if there are big hollows and raised bits all over. Lights are not renders friend, and it's unlikely it'll ever look...

Hi everyone, im a beginner and currently getting a garden wall and garage ready for plastering, but i need to ask a few questions

Use an online calculator for the garage area. Buy a few more bags than it says just in case. Bodge garage, realise you've made a mistake and hire a renderer to do the rest

Council house ceiling help needed please

Decent money per day, but it seems chancers and slow bastards actually end up charging more as it takes them so long. I skimmed over an artex ceiling last week, was about 25sm, charged for a full day and was done by 12 so decent money for 4 hours work. At the end lady said looked great but she...

Council house ceiling help needed please

Looks like it's less than 5 boards. Even an hour a board gives you a few hours to skim it. I overboarded and plastered a 20sm 2.5high lath and plaster ceiling yesterday on my tod and was done by 3. Had to cut out a lovely circle too

Council house ceiling help needed please

What's the 2nd day for? Check it's drying out nicely? If it would take you 2 days surely £550 is about right. It's an easy 1 day job though

    £35 per hour

Na it must be true. He earns £300 a day, has an electric van so nok fuel cost, only works till mid afternoon and the parcels float into his van in the morning. Perfect job. Correction, over £300 a day He worked a 15 hour day once, earnt £301 and now tells everyone he earns over £300 a day doing...
  23. N

    £35 per hour

If that's the genuine costs then fair play. I find it hard to believe any van can be run around town for 8 hours a day at a cost of less than £2 an hour in fuel though
  24. N

    £35 per hour

Ok so he's probably putting 50k miles on his own van a year then and all the diesel costs, which makes the money pretty s**t
  25. N

    £35 per hour

Why does anyone have a reason to lie about what they earn? If you're saying he has a company van, and is home by 4, and is earning £300 a day he's lieing about at least 1 of those things, almost certainly 2 of them
  26. N

    £35 per hour

And puts 50k miles on a car a year probably
  27. N

    £35 per hour

That rules out half the population lieing about It though (hopefully)

    £35 per hour

I heard on radio today most common thing people lie about is what they earn..
  29. N

I cant be the only one.

You misjudged a wall by 60 bags?

    Had a nightmare

Not 100% to be honest, but I don't remember ever getting bubbles when the multi goes off quick, as it would if the water went too quick? Only ever had bubbling if I got impatient and went over a bonded ceiling too quickly from memory
  31. N

    Had a nightmare

Problem wasn't the bonding cracking or Pva drying to quick it was he over pvad the bonding and the moisture had nowhere to go so his multi bubbled
  32. N

    Had a nightmare

Why would you Pva over bonding you had done the same day?

    Ceiling flatness after skimming

You noticed a 1mm hollow? :risas: I love the fact you think you would of levelled the ceiling perfectly level

    Preparing fireboard for skimming

Because its magic fireboard that doesn't crack and magically makes a nice corner when skimmed silly

Bathroom walls - undercoat/skim or render?

This isn't realistic in the majority of bathrooms though. They are made the exact length of a bath, 1700mm I think a standard bath is. Reducing the size of the room by 70 odd mill wouldnt be practical

Bathroom walls - undercoat/skim or render?

Hiring bad tradesman isn't a reason to do it yourself, it's a reason to hire a good tradesman with good reputation. I've never heard of anyone asking for a deposit btw for a little bathroom reskim job. The materials are probably 60 or 70quid. You really don't want to tackle that yourself in my...

Hmm how to prep for plastering??

Tbh putting plasterboard in would be very easy. Just cut the width of the board a few mms smaller than needed, pop abit of adhesive on the pack and push it in to place. Put a level on the wall and tap it in with the end of the level until its flush. If you can do some boxing in and other bits...

  46. N

Hmm how to prep for plastering??

Either fill it in with plasterboard or bonding yourself or let the plasterer do it. Not really a great deal of prep there for a plasterer to be honest
  47. N

Hmm how to prep for plastering??

What are you on about? He cut the coving to do some boxing in. All the rest of the coving is being removed

    Anyone help with this

Say its planned, and a statement. Be all the rage one day
  49. N

    Thank god for flexi trowels.

Plenty of work on cheers. Some plasterers can only skim abit of fresh board(some can't even do that mind) , some can turn their hand to any situation. Jobs done, money in bank on to the next
