Here's another bit of advice. Get yourself a can of PTFE spray and with the legs fully extended give them a good coating of it.

Lack of holes wasn't the problem, not holding the beads firm enough was. I can only recall using tape a couple of times to get over a problem, once I tried Grip Fill for the first time I'd never have given tape fixing another thought. What do you think I've got to be bitter about?

I did say "from various manufacturers" mate, it was solely aimed at you and Nela. I wholeheartedly agree with you about products evolving, as long as the new tools are an improvement, many simply are not. My son and I were using Nela flexy trowels on some walls in a 200+ year old cottage...

Joking aside; I do use them when feeding the lake and really don't think they'd be ideal as a muck scoop. Well not the ones I've used or seen. They'd be hopeless for cleaning the sides of the bucket or getting the last gear out. You'd probably be as well using a small saucepan. Doesn't @algeeman...

I think they're ideal for scooping animal feed.

Why would a bigger trowel be better? I tried bigger trowels years ago out of curiousity, 13, 14, right up to 20 inches. I soon went back to 11in. Having found it harder to get the elevens I now use 11 1/2 and 12's. Way less strain on the body, especially if you're pushing s&c up the wall.
