    Cracks on scratch coat?

Its not ideal, and doubt he will give it another scratch. If its sound shouldn’t be an issue. What finish are you having? Id have concern if it was a float finish, not so much if it was pebble dash

    Advice Sought ...

Before I click on photos under threads like these I always say to myself ‘im sure its not that bad’. Thats bad. If you still want a complete smooth finish it’s unfortunately gonna need re rendering of some sorts. Some plasterers will apply silicone render on top on painted render like yours but...

    Drying imperfections in new plaster.

Was it plasterboard? Sometimes when the plasterboard is damaged and the paper comes off or if there is a hole in the old plaster and wasn’t pva’d it dries crazy fast and the plaster cracks like that, to which point the plasterer has a f**k it and loads up the cracked area with fat. Least thats...

Rend aid with sand and cement

Rendaid is fine for sand and cement. As long as its applied leaving a good key. SBR slurry would also work.

    Pral M advice.

Hi all, my bosses brother (a bloody sparky) has bought a house and is currently renovating. The old render has been hacked back to stone. He wants a mono finish. My boss is very traditional and only really uses s&c, iv used weber for my own work always on blockwork so don’t claim to be an...

    Scud coat

Got a garage re-render coming up. Old dash hacked off back to red brick. Usually I use weber rendaid or sbr slurry and hit it while its tacky. Rendaid is out of stock in my area and sbr slurry is just a pain in the arse when your doing a 100 things at once. As far as throwing or stippling a scud...

    Working combinations for domestic work!

When i was a apprentice i got on the tools quite fast and was on par with my boss (he was a rough c**t mind) he would let me do all the skimming, dot and dabbing and rendering. There was never a day in my apprenticeship i was just a labourer. I was on £60 a day back then which was great for a...

How many of you actually use beads?

Got to talk to some new faces today and was interested with their approach on rendering with beads. Some of them even said that they only use plastic beads when using mono and use battings for anything else as its “lazy using beads”. Dunno if its only me but i always use plastic beads especially...

    Splayed angle.

Isnt a big bullnose, a mesh angle bead would probably cover it but like i said if the angle isnt right the beads give you to much of an angle to skim to so the finish slopes up to the bead
  28. Zanzibar26

    Splayed angle.

I would of preferred to put a normal angle bead on but with it being splayed i find it a pain to shape the bead to fit over the curve, otherwise i find that the wings stick out to much cos there is to much of an angle or the the actual aris turns to like a fookin bell cast

    Splayed angle.

Just been to see a job, one wall has 2 windows with splayed reveals. Was thinking smacking some stop beads on them but the corners are bullnose. if i fix them sound to the corner 3mm out and just dub out where the curve on the other side goes “in” the bead then skim as usual when its gone off...

    24hr sbr stipple

has anyone ever used a stipple with sbr and leave it 24hrs for a key rather than hitting it while its tacky? Got a long garden wall from block thats been painted straight on to be scratched. Offered rendaid but customer wants sbr as they have a s**t load of cement and i happen to have a s**t...

    Mixing drill help

I use the blue paddle often it can mix a 25kg+ bags no problem only if you use them with a powerful drill/mixer. The paddle opens up as it gets faster and mixes much easier/faster than generic paddles. Plus they dont collect old plaster as its flexible so snot just taps off when dry. Would...

    Comb or scarifier

Hi all! New to the forum though been plastering a number of years. Been with another spread this week who uses a scarifier on s&c. Personally always use a standard comb. Years ago in college i was told that scarifiers dont give a sufficient key for s&c but this spreads work looks tidy and...
