    New bag

Why would you use it on board?

    New bag

What like you don't need Pva or maybe you do we suggest doing a trial panel first before you commit to buying too much, if unsuitable you obviously don't know what your doing so ring a certified plasterer from our list.

55 now, 5 yrs ago working on sites £5.25 hardwall & skim £3 ceilings £2.75 walls, working on my own and still earning average of £1000 a week. Not interested now, crap plaster (thanks bg) elf & safety, tried domestic idiot clients, hoping to pack it all in but don't know if I can. Still morgtage...

    Rates going back 20 years??

Don't remember being that low, only for a local builder we used to do float & set skimming board & screeding floors for £ 2 a yard without taking windows/ doors out cos he did'nt like measuring and multiples of 2 was easy to add up.

    Rates going back 20 years??

No Reading 35 miles from London the rich South!

    Rates going back 20 years??

1983 I was getting £100 a week labouring, plasterer was getting £275 floating sand & cement, paid by the yard then don't no how much but I was happy, previous job was £26 a week apprentice mechanic

    Uni failure

BG are on a winner, they charge double for a load of crap, then when it falls off you get to use another of there crap products to put it right. 2 sales for the price of 3.
  8. S

    Unifinish

Perhaps you need a moderator to do that
  9. S

How flat & level should it be?

Depends, If your paying top money for a perfect job it should be straight and plumb.
  10. S

    Nela Rainbow

Would walk to work instead of going in that!
  11. S

    Nela Rainbow

One day I may be worthy!
  12. S

    Nela Rainbow

But they will make the chosen few think they are gods gift to plastering.

Weber Pral M Render Issues - Help please for best way forward

Thats the worst I've ever seen, must of been there first attempt, did they do any plastering inside?
  14. S

    Speed skim

Was taught to never dry trowel.
  15. S

    Speed skim

    Why?
  16. S

    Speed skim

That ceilings gone hard, why are you still faffing about with it!!
  17. S

    Superprof comfort profile spat.

Another load of bollox, use a proper trowel, leave a decent job be a plasterer, its no game changer!
  18. S

    Socket beads

    But you don't take selfies;)
  19. S

    Socket beads

Ace idea, you can fit these while waiting for pva to go tacky, save a fortune on uni finish:LOL:
  20. S

    flawless inspection.

Coat of unifinish and a speedskim and that would be perfect!
  21. S

    Unifinish

Well said! I have used it on a gloss painted ceiling and was ok, but would not use on a surface that was unsure about without pva, so is no use to anyone! Even Vincey wont use it at rrp!!
  22. S

    Chas

I' m all in favour of proper health and safety and glad you take it seriously, but I think its a shame that everything has to have a fee these days and there are plenty off people willing to take it. Common sense has always been free!
  23. S

    Trowel bending the wrong way

Active air is gonna be the new unifinish, can't wait!!
  24. S

    Chas

So you pay to go to work, same as cscs so another money making scam!
  25. S

    Chas

Sounds like another money making scam to me same as cscs.
  26. S

    Unifinish

Just realised on your profile picture, Usain pointing at ceiling thats been done with unifinish, no wonder he runs so fast!!!
  27. S

    Gritty multi

Now you've tryed and tested it, vincey can approve it and bg will charge £12 a bag for it
  28. S

    Low prices not

Theres always one, or in this case two! Lol
  29. S

    Low prices not

The advert from bg on this page annoys me! "The plaster that works without pva" sometimes other times use pva! "Approved by you" not by me so who!!
  30. S

    Low prices not

I agree that part of the job /trade is judging how best to get over different backgrounds but unfortunately even after 35 yrs of plastering the occasional job catches me out. It is also the manufacturers job to supply a product suitable for working with, shame that on the front of the bag...
  31. S

    Low prices not

Not if you buy the uni from b&q as well which is a fairer comparison thats £61, £20 difference without the possible need for pva or as some have said 3 coating!!
  32. S

Cracks in Newly Skimmed Over-Boarded Ceiling

Doubt if no fibre tape is the problem as applying it is a 5 minute job and so easy to do. So reskimming is not going to cure the problem
  33. S

    Flexible plasterboard.

The I've plastered on this, its actually too flexible and really needs a good background to fix to.
  34. S

    Multi problems

1 bag well done!! Try using 30/40 bags of the s**t every week!!
  35. S

    Thistle universal onecoat

No do you use speedskim on the finish does'nt it pull in to quick, do you multi or uni?
  36. S

    Thistle universal onecoat

Did you use speedsk*m skimming hardwall?

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

Most new products general public no nothing about, mostly pushed by architects who also nothing about them but they read the speal and fancy leaflets/brochures and think they will revolutionise industry.
  38. S

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

Jobs I and most Plasterers get are for reskimming to leave a good surface for decorating. It won't matter how many new plasters/gizmos bg invent for most people a smooth finish is adequate!
  39. S

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

Basically bg can produce any sh*t they like and we have to turn it into a good finish to make ourselves a wage and make them look like superstars, and charge us 250 a year, f**king no brainer!!
  40. S

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

My question was'nt answered about crap 2 yr guarantee. Can't see any of my customers paying a couple of grand for a re skim knowing bg wont guarantee there products longer. Wonder what NHBC makes of it, makes there 10 yr guarantee a farce
  41. S

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

Hope the scheme is better than that waste of time, don't think I'll be joining!
  42. S

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

If we are not on the scheme does that mean we get no technical help or back up when your products fail
  43. S

    Certified Plasterer Scheme - Q&A

A 2 year guarantee is very short, does this mean we will get repeat jobs every 2 years when the unifinish has fallen off
  44. S

    Cscs card

Who needs an nvq anyway you can be recommended by bg for free
  45. S

    Cscs card

Just shows what a farce it is when city and guilds qualification is not recognised and an nvq is!!
  46. S

    Self employed.

mago, post: 978159, member: 23452"]That's no doubt true, but it still costs you more than using an accountant. As already mentioned a few times an accountant is 100% deductable so using one costs the business nothing. If you do your own books it takes time, your time, which costs you. That time...
  47. S

Biggest ceiling skimmed on your own no speedskim just trowel

Is that on stilts, if so how do you get stuff out of bucket?
  48. S

We are going to try it again!

Best thing to do is open the window and throw it straight out!!
  49. S

Please sign this petition - for an explanation about BG finishing products!!!

Storage by suppliers is a lame excuse, the lorries from bg delivering to suppliers are not temperature or humidity controlled!
