Lime render stops at first floor - flashing required at top or not? Need advice...

If you have had it rendered with Lime and Sand, Lime breaths so as long as he hasn’t put any chemicals in it and it is only Lime and Sand because it breaths it will get wet and dry out again, the Lime won’t hold the water behind it

    Quality Persimmon homes

You don’t think it’s because they want a roof over their head then? That aside it’s no excuse to think oh they only want to make money out of them so let’s give them a pile of s**t, I’m sure you don’t think like that when renovating someone’s house they are going to sell at a vast profit

The future of the UK ! Scandalous whats happening .

This is what I mean, if you ask a question that’s not on the paper in front of them they just keep repeating the same answer as before. Two years back I had a dot in my leg and just gave up trying to get contribution based sick pay

You would think the DWP would be wise to this by now but it highlights the cock up within all our officialdom if you tell them the answers they have in front of them your fine

Becoming a self employed plasterer after being a lorry driver for 8 years..

You need to work with a few proper spreads for a year or so, to get up to speed learn a few things like float and set, sand and cement tacking and floor screeding but then again if you just want to be a skimmer you just need to get your speed up. With the way it is getting hold of materials you...

    Tyrolean Cullamix prep

We used to prime sand and cement with a watered down mix of the colour you used and let it dry, took about half hour but it was more to make sure everything was coloured so you didn’t see the sand and cement through the finished job you also didnt need so much Tyrolean to cover it.

price m2 - stucco (top coat only)

I wouldn’t touch it if I were you, if you top it out then you are taking responsibility for the under coat unless you get something in writing
  30. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Windows and doors.

It’s already holding up window fitters in Kent, when they get the windows and fit them there’s no glass, the cable for fire alarms is an issue now as well
  31. Mouldyoldspudgun

    New trowel

Kin hell Burt you’ve changed your avatar
  32. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Hello. 1930's render advice please.

We use half and half sand wise for the first coat, as long as you get the same sort of finish it won’t matter on the colour assuming you get the mix right
  33. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Thatched Houses and Rethatch costs

I feel for you we made an offer of the full asking price for a cottage in Benenden Kent on the understanding another couples second viewing would be cancelled and Wards the bloody estate agents showed them round and they bought it cash, well pissed of about it actually
  34. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Hello. 1930's render advice please.

We used to see the Poles fitting it on the office blocks in the nineties but just because you fit external insulation doesn’t mean it makes your home of a superior standard it just gives You cheaper heating bills but one day the fad will stop just like With Artex and Tyrolean and I suspect all...
  35. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Hello. 1930's render advice please.

I have to disagree with that I’m not sure they are bringing our housing stock to a decent standard more like doing the bidding of the latest eco fad
  36. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Hello. 1930's render advice please.

The 1:1:6 would give you 1:3 to be fair, I personally would think it’s sand and cement because it’s a thirties house but without having it analysed you wouldn’t know, the colour is usually because of the sand but don’t take that as gospel. Your surrounding houses that have been rendered may not...

    Rendering celcon blocks

He only needs to put a strip of sisal paper up the straight joint so it can do all the moving it wants behind the paper admittedly it will sound hollow but it SHOULD stop it from cracking or just put back to back stop beads up the joint and silicone up the joint, they can be close to eachother
  38. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Make good multi skim.

I’m not saying you or anyone did or does struggle I’m just saying the Multi finish today is crap compared to what plaster was like in the eighties and nineties, the stuff froze those times wasn’t affected by the damp or winter if you can’t remember buy a few bags of the Irish stuff it will...
  39. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Hello. 1930's render advice please.

Bloody hell this opens up a whole can of worms I’ve just been on their site and it says window reveals have to be done as well, what about being able to open the window some ar tight enough with just render let alone insulation
  40. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Hello. 1930's render advice please.

You have to be joking can’t they keep their noses out of anything? Would that work for him the overhang of his roof tiles is not enough for that sort of thickness
  41. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Rendering celcon blocks

You may have seen it done a fair few times but rendered or not you have created a straight joint which will crack so you either need to make it an expansion joint or the better idea press the plastic mesh into your scratch coat. It’s hard to say what mix to use in all fairness if you use the...
  42. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Hello. 1930's render advice please.

If you want to use what was used in the first place you will have to have it analysed but even then that sand quarry will probably be under a Housing estate now and the dust that may have been used will be different as for using lime and sand if you are doing that originality you will have to...
  43. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Make good multi skim.

You are right about the Irish stuff, my boy loves it, you get the finish we used to in the eighties and nineties before the crap we have now was fiddled with. If we can get it it will be Carlite or Carlite Ultra finish for us from now on and it’s grey not sissy pink a win all round
  44. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Make good multi skim.

I haven’t lost any jobs me old mucka we only operate through word of mouth, this threads about the make good stuff not Multi finish which is crap and if you are as old as you imply you will remember carlite finish, board finish and multi finish when it first came out none of which required you...
  45. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Make good multi skim.

I suspect people care about the plaster because it makes their working day either good and productive or s**t and unproductive, it also counts what your customer thinks of the finish you get otherwise they won’t use you again or put your name forward to others
  46. Mouldyoldspudgun

    Make good multi skim.

    That’s because it’s crap
